I was getting really discouraged because all the people I've talked to acted like I'm cheating them when I give them a rate.
Then you're talking to the wrong people. Really. How are you meeting people? Who are you talking to? Can you go to any business networking events? There you will meet other business people who will have respect for you as a business owner and service operator.

Interesting insight wth the differences between small and large businesses. I wouldn't have thought about that. You are so right about small business owners they do think they can do it all and don't want to pay.

Kathie, Yes, I've gone to networking groups. I'm talking with insurance an real estate agents, mostly. I'm trying to branch out to different businesses. I'm speaking with some business coaches who can hopefully set me up with their clients.

Business Coaches are good to speak to. You're right they have clients they can refer you to. But also, business coaches themselves need VAs. They are my core client group and I've been supporting business coaches for around 14 or so years now.

I know it's hard when a potential client doesn't sign because of your rates, but as I've mentioned on my blog here and here, a client who is that concerned about price are much more likely to jump ship for various reasons, like the first time they have a rough money spot.
I'm actually doing a webinar for virtual professionals on finding and claiming your value in August that includes tips on dealing with potential clients that will help them recognize the value rather than balk at the rates.

I feel like I'm walking blind as far as pricing goes regarding a specific service. Internet Research & Data Compilation for a prospect list. How would you charge out something like that??? I dont want to charge hourly because it will just be sky high! I was thinking around $150 for the Research and $50 for the Compilation & Data Entry. Please give me your feedback! Thank you!

How long is a piece of string lovey? You need to think seriously about how much time will be put into this project. You can charge a project price rather than an hourly rate, but you need to put some conditions on it. For example: Compilation and data entry to xxx number of entries. Research to total of xx number of hours or something like that. You need to quantify what the minimum is they would get for that rate and if they get more, then they'll be happy.

How do I find a business coach? And is there a fee to speak to the coaches?
