Question Anyone a VA to a therapist or counselor?
I'd like to talk to anyone who is a VA to a therapist or who wants to be. I'm interested in asking questions about what type of services you offer.

Thank you.

Hi, I offer transcription services for mental health professionals (i.e., psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, social workers, etc.) and I LOVE it!!

I have a regular client now who gives me ongoing work twice a week every week. He has some private clients, but he specializes in doing evaluations and testing for government agencies like Social Security Disability benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation, High School psychological evaluations, etc. He is very busy, and I transcribe all the evaluation reports he dictates. His wife is a licensed mental health counselor and she administers all the tests, he does the interview and dictates the results, and I transcribe the reports. It's a great team set up. His work is very rote and repetitive but it's fairly lucrative because of the volume. I don't know where you find other psychologists who do this type of work though. He found me and I feel very blessed.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about doing this type of work...feel free to post here so that we can share the info with others on the forum who may benefit.

Lisa

Hi Lisa and Alice,

I'm not interested in transcription services because I don't have that wonderful skill. I'm interested in finding out what they do need other than transcription.

Thank you, Lisa, too for your response.

@Lisa - This brought up a question for me, even though I'm not interested in pursuing anything along these lines...but doesn't transcribing for them somehow violate doctor/patient confidentiality? Just was curious.

@Jan - I haven't done any directly. I was talking to one mental health practitioner regarding doing volunteer work for her. The kind of help she needed was processes and systems for the most part - and a lot of help with scheduling and follow-up with clients, and managing her busy schedule as well, invoicing, website management, and some small amount of social media. She also did speaking engagements, and sat on some panels, so I would have helped her put together presentation materials, helped with registration for those events that she was putting on for herself, and in general just keeping her world moving forward. Hope this gives a little insight.

Hope this helps some. It never took off because I got busy, and she got a bit flaky with... ("I want to get started...no, something came up...I'm ready now, when can we get started?...Oh, you know, I'm busy that week. Can we get together the next week?")

Thanks, Pam. I have a dear friend who is a therapist and she said a few of them could definitely use some writing services. So I wanted to check around here to see what everybody's experience was. Thank you for chiming in.

Have a terrific weekend.

I have thought about marketing to mental health professionals. I guess the main thing they would need is transcription. Calendar management, emails and other administrative duties is something they might need to.

Hi Jan,
I have a client in this field. I set up and schedule her newsletter and assist with other autoresponder type work. She does live retreats so I assist with retreat preparations, formatting PDF handouts, and other writing services plus ocassional internet research or website updates. She tried social media but found that her schedule was too full to interact on a regular basis and this type of marketing must have the personality of the individual infused with automated posts.

Hi Ruth,

Thanks so much for that information. I want to offer the service of repurposing a client's material into blog posts and newsletters.

I am through the Global Association of Holistic Psychotherapists. I received a certification from them. For my client I do billing, newsletters, and whatever comes up.
