I use Windows XP and play with Linux Puppy.

Do you only want to hear from people who have those three? Because, really, you have left out a large number of options. Will lumping all the flavors of Linux together really give you the information you want?

Default Re: Which Computer Operating System do you use?
I have several computers and have a variety of operating systems.

  • On my main PC I run Windows 7 (64)
  • On my laptop I run Windows 8
  • I also have a MacBook that runs Lion
  • The systems I have set-up for my kids and husband run Windows XP. (I really need to upgrade these machines.)
One of the services I provide to clients is tech support, so I try to make sure I have most versions of the top software programs (Windows, Office, Adobe, etc).

My laptop was win7. When it died, I bought a win8 desktop. I spent a week customizing it then decided I absolutely hated it and returned it for a win7 desktop.

I tried using Windows 8 on my friend's laptop but I still choose Windows 7, for me Win7 is the best so far.

I like Windows 7. I don't like Windows 8. I will someday buy a Mac and learn how to use it!

For those of you who do not like Windows 8, take a look at this site. The site offers solutions to bypass some of the most annoying features of Windows 8.

My favorites are:
Personally I prefer Windows 7, but many new systems come preloaded with Windows 8.

Hi Julie, Thank you for that site. Times are forever changing.

I purchased my new laptop solely for the purpose of my business. It came with so many programs and software I could not resist. Of course Windows 8 was the operating system. I am so glad that I can use the desktop, otherwise I would of have been lost. I get frustrated when I have open files and I try to go back and forth. Opening and closing, or just moving around is a chore as well. I will master this windows 8 thing, and by then windows 10 will be out. lol.

Thanks, Julie! That is great info for people who actually want to get work done with their computers and not just surf the 'net. I hope it isn't too long for Microsoft to release 8.1, my mother needs a new computer and she will not be able to understand Metro. She just knows how to do want she wants with XP.

Barbara,

I would look at Lenovo's outlet section or at their thinkcentre computers. They will still build a computer and put windows 7 on it for you.

Or if your mom just needs a very basic computer take a look at the google chromebooks.

I do agree with everyone windows 8 is awful. I tried to figure out how to use it in the store and wrote it off as an operating system in its current state really quick. Seems like more computer manufacturers are going more to "app" based operating systems, but I'm still old school in that I use my computer for work not just interneting.

DH has a ThinkPad and we will get another when his dies. They are nice laptops. My Dad wants to get Mom an HP all-in-one computer so that it will (sort of) match his iMac. Mom wants to stay with Windows and not mess with learning Apple. HP seems to have gone all Win8 on their all-in-ones.

I currently volunteer in my city library's computer lab. They changed over to Win8 in the Spring and it has been a real learning curve! Can't wait for 8.1 to come out so our patrons aren't so frustrated.

I've 2 computers, the 1st one has XP as my OS and the other is now Windows 7. Honestly, between the two OS I find it very easy to use the XP for some reasons I'm very fan of it because things are not that complicated. I don't know but Windows7 till now is not that okay for me.

Please don't judge me. LOL I use Windows Vista on my PC and 7 on my laptop. I wish I had Vista on my laptop. I will not buy Windows 8. I used it on a friend's laptop and hated it. Not intuitive without the touch screen and so hard to find basic stuff like the control panel.

I'm on Windows 7.
But I would always want to use XP since it's lightweight and neat.

I have Windows 7 on my desktop, my laptop had Windows 8. I no longer have my laptop because the Windows 8 kept messing up and to the point that I couldn't plug the power cord in to charge it. After spending so much $$$ trying to figure out the problems (took it to the place I bought it from, they didn't know said it was me. Sent it to the manufacturer, again they told me there was nothing wrong, and it was me. Took it to a local company and they finally told me it was Windows 8 and was messing up the system), I finally decided my desktop was fine.
