Default Scam, Scam, Scam
Here's another example of a scam that I received via e-mail for a job that I applied for as an administrative assistant (I don't have a job right now, and my VA business is still in planning stage; have to make money somehow). So here it is:

NOTE: The Craigslist Job Posting ID is 3101697783. So when you go to Craigslist.com LOOK OUT for this job post; it's a scam.

to me

INTRODUCTION :

My name is Dennis Moore, I am SVP, CFO, Secretary, Treasurer of (J&J Snack Foods Corp.). (Okay this is the FIRST suspicious thing: how can you have all of these titles in one company t hat's supposed to be a big company. If the company is making that much money, then shouldn't you have enough to hire staff to fill these positions? Also I took a look at their financial report; apparently the scammer didn't count on me to do this particular part of the research. I may not know numbers well, but based on their financial report, they're making enough money to hire good staff).

ABOUT J&J SNACK FOODS CORP.
J&J Snack Foods Corp. is a manufacturer, marketer and distributor of an expanding variety of nutritional, popularly priced, branded niche snack foods and beverages for the food service and retail supermarket industries. The Company is listed on the NASDAQ exchange as "JJSF", and serves both national and international markets. Our growing portfolio of products includes frozen soft pretzels under SUPERPRETZEL, Pretzel Fillers and other brand names; ICEE frozen beverages; LUIGI'S Real Italian Ice, Whole Fruit; frozen juice bars under the Minute Maid, Barq's, SHAPE UPS and CHILL brand names; TIO PEPE'S churros; The Funnel Cake Factory funnel cakes; and cookies under the Mrs. Good Cookie and CAMDEN CREEK brands. Consumers can enjoy these nutritional and tasty products in a variety of settings where people work, play, travel and shop including: Snack bars and food stands in leading chain, department, discount and convenience stores, Retail supermarkets, Malls and shopping centers, Fast food outlets, Stadiums and sports arenas, Leisure and theme parks ,Movie theaters, Schools, colleges and other institutions, Healthcare food service locations. (This was copied and pasted from the legitimate company website; a job poorly done).

J & J Snack Foods manufactures and distributes nutritional snack foods to the food service and retail supermarket industries. J&J Snack Foods is committed to employing and retaining talented and energetic employees that are passionate about what they do! We are currently accepting applications and resumes. I got your resume and it has been reviewed, I did appreciate it, thanks for applying for the post. I'm looking for someone that can be trusted and reliable, someone with good understanding and working skills, and i have no doubt that you will perform as expected, Hence You are being recruited as my Personal Assistant ! (Poor grammatical errors; also I find it extremely hard to believe that you would pick me out of possibly "hundreds" of other applicants based on my resume and cover letter. What, no phone interview? No appointment scheduling?

** This position is home-based for now, and flexible while we relocate to our permanent office, Working with me is basically about instructions and following them. Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to: directly assisting me in all personal matters; maintaining company/Personal records, basic book-keeping, data entry. ** Running personal errands, supervisions and monitoring! Scheduling programs, flights and keeping me up to date with them. Acting as an alternative telephone correspondence while I'm away. Making regular contacts and drop-offs on my behalf. Handling and monitoring some of my financial activities.
* Basic wage is $725 Weekly. (Not Negotiable) (Wow, if it sounds to goo to be true...uh it normally is).

J&J SNACK FOODS CORP. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Building on J&J Snack Foods legacy of commitment to consumers, community and children, we provide high-quality J&J Snack Foods products while conducting our business in a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable manner. As part of the social and humanitarian obligation to the community, the company recently embarked upon a computer literacy program aimed at educating the kids at Foster home, the basic computer skills. It is my duty to ensure that such obligation is met. J&J Snack Foods Corp. recognizes its obligation to its customers, community and online visitors to adhere to the highest standards of decency, fairness, and integrity in all its operations. Likewise, we're dedicated to the fundamentals of protecting consumer privacy on the Internet. (Copied from company website)

I'm sure you'll understand I tend to have a very busy schedule at this point, meanwhile, the company distributed few computers to the missionary home (Foster care) in Mexico. we got information that the computers all malfunctioned so i had to go there to supervise, hence, I am presently in Mexico. I will be here for now till am through with them. It is my intention to task you with basic chores/duties while i am away. (Again, incorrect grammar)

Recall that this position is often not office based because of my frequent travels and tight schedules, its flexibility means that there will be busier weeks than others, so it's a little difficult judging the exact number of hours you'll be doing per week. Your Weekly wage of 725 dollars is fixed, and not negotiable. I require a convenient, one-stop service to accomplish my personal and business tasks.

I hope we can meet up with the workload eventually, as i have lots of works piled up presently and a number of unattended chores which you can immediately assist me with. Permit me to use the coming days to test your efficiency and diligence towards all this, also to work out your time schedule and fit it to mine. I really need to find the perfect person for this job, I have no reservation that you can take up the challenge and on the long run we should have a relatively sound working relationship ! I am glad you are willing to work with me and i promise to be a good Boss, and not a demanding one. I require total discretion, honesty, and loyalty from you. (wow, what a paradox..you expect honesty, loyalty, and total discretion from me, and yet you're slapping me with spam/money laundering scheme.) I will arrange for a personal one-on-one meeting with you on my arrival. Be prepared to meet with me.

However, in line with the monthly Humanitarian obligation of the company which is central to visiting Mexico. The company is donating gifts and several other items to the kids at the Foster home, while i am away, you will be handling this responsibility/duty on my behalf, and in my absence ! This is going to be your first assignment, Let me put you to test! As for the gifts, and items to be bought for the kids, i will send you a list and description of the items, alongside delivery address when purchased. Note that you are not to use your personal funds, rather, the accountant will issue you a 'Certified Company Check to execute the task with, and complete the assignment. (Can someone spell "money laundering?" I'm not going to jail)...

DO CONFIRM ACCEPTANCE OF THIS POSITION BY PROVIDING BELOW DETAILS. DECLINE THE OFFER BY NOT REPLYING, OR SAYING NO.
PLEASE FILL THE APPLICATION FORM BELOW:
First Name :_________________
Middle Name:_________________
Last Name:_________________
Full Street Address(not PO BOX) :_________________

State:_________________
Zip Code:_________________

**And this, my frieds, is the icing on the cake. This is what got me. about 95% of the spammed e-mail always ends with this**

Upon receipt of the above details, you may become considered for the Position, as this will enable me outline further task and duties as well as obligations for coming days. Your Appointment takes effect from the first day you receive assignment funding via Certified Check.

Thank you once again for gracing this application, and for having a valuable resume.
****************************** *********************

This is as phony as a three-dollar bill on a Saturday.

Don't be fooled by legitimate sites. Scammers have gotten to the point now where they use these sites to lure people in. Best to believe, I contacted the proper authorities concerning their website being used to send out spammy job offers.

Do your research ladies and gents...

Hello Nadia

I am applausing youfor reading and seeing behind what this scammer wanted. I have preached and try to teach my fellow VA's about internet scammers.

Keys points; grammer, always a small "i", cashier checks (F.B.I. has stated that any business being conducted on the internet, should not accept a cashier checks, the majorities of those checks are fradulent), the newest emotional catcher is the charity angle - if they play on your sympathy you will help them out. Cunning don't you think. I would like to call them more, but I am not permitted too and I am a now a Business Lady (lol). Scammers will do anything to get your monies.

Thanks! When I first applied for jobs on Craigslist, they turned out to be spam, spam, and spam. And they all said the same thing. Some would try to word it differently. So I started sending reporting these things to the legit sites and putting these notices in my spam box. I do my research; and I'm not so trusting now. Even if they play the charity, Lord/sister in Christ/my uncle-brother-husband is sick, and I need someone to ship this money off too. Jesus told me to be wise, not stupid or gullible. What they don't count on is that I'm a thorough investigator; which means I check out phone numbers, company stats, websites, etc. If any ONE is out of line then it's trash can for you and a report to the proper authorities. Even though I'm between jobs, that doesn't make me gullible; as a matter of fact, it's made me sharper; meant that I was an easy target for those scamming spammers.

So I'm glad I socked that one in the eye...

Default Re: Scam, Scam, Scam
Red Flag!!!!! This is interesting. I have had no power since Friday of last week, so there is no possible way I have tried to find a job on-line. This was in my in-box this morning. Definitely a scam: misspellings, incorrect use of words, promise of payment (after I provide my information for a background check), definite salary for part-time work replacing an 'assistant' who had an unforeseen emergency back home in China, and an absent 'boss'.

Thank you for sending your resume ,

Your interest about the job has been received. This might seem a little different from the Receptionist/ Administrative position placed however it is due to the need for an urgent replacement for my Personal Assistant the job Ad position was placed. I really need someone urgently to take up the position as my personal assistant and also help me with shipping, mailing and general errands. My name is Justin Devon, Mrs Chung Wu used to be my personal assistant but she had to traveled back to her country (China) on an emergency.

I would have loved to meet up with you to talk about this job, but I am currently away on a business trip. I am currently in Australia so there will be no interview, till I get back to the United States in September, then we can meet and talk more about the future of the job as i would be setting up a new art gallery and I can have you manage it. All you need to do is follow instructions daily. I am an Artist. I just started my own art gallery here in Australia, I buy ideas, Artifacts, antics and materials from ancient cities and I have got so many clients as companies, individuals and governmental institutions and private museums across the world.

I am looking for someone who can handle my personal and business errands at his/her spare time. Someone who can offer the services listed on the advert on craigslist such as receiving calls and reporting back to me what information you got from clients, replying emails and printing invitation for exhibitions, shopping for gifts and materials, paying bills as well as receiving payments from clients when am not around, handle local cash and transfers on my behalf such as Western Union. This position is a very trusting one and a high level of trust worthiness is required. So if you know you fit into this category/personality then i would be expecting your prompt response back.

You will work on the average of about 15-25hrs per week and I will start by paying you $300 per week which will rise to $500 depending on how effective you are, the job will start from the moment you start running errands. This job is temporary and could possibly be a permanent one for you based on how you deliver your duties, we will talk more when am back and you can take part more in my successfully growing business.

I will email you the list and samples of pictures of what to shop for when I need you to shop for me and will be precise on what and where, funds will be giving upfront and the shopping must be reported in detailed manner. No heavy packages is involved! You can do the shopping at any nearest stores. I will provide clear set of instructions for each task I need done as well the funds to cover them.

PAYMENT:

------------------------------------

If I were to mail you money to do my shopping plus upfront payment for your first week's service, where would you want it mailed to? How should your name appear on the money?

Kindly provide me with the following details below to enable me do a necessary background check on you:

Full Name:

Full Address:

Apt No:

City:

State:

Zip Code:

(NO P.O.BOX)

Phone Number:

Email:

Once you send all this information, i will make a back ground check on your details and will get back to you within 24hrs to let you know if you get the job.

Thank you!

Justin Devon

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did. I had a good laugh!

If nothing else I do get a good laugh at how creative they are becoming. The sad part is that many will fall for it and it could ruin an emerging business.

Thanks for sharing the warnings.

You are so right, Wendy. I got one yesterday just like the first and another one today and deleted it. (That was before I checked this forum). I will most definitely report as spam next time. They are indeed getting creative! Thanks for the advice.

J&J snack foods is familiar. There were a whole bunch of bloggers approached by possibly the same guy and they all thought he was a bit suss and all turned him down.I believe he wanted them to review products with ridiculous 'bonuses' attached.
