Janine,
Note: using the mailto command does require that the person clicking the "Forward to a friend" has a email client installed on their computer. (If utilizing lets say a public computer, they may not have a mail client installed.)
Another option is to use a form and a php mail sript.
Sample Form code (to go on page where newsletter is found):
<form name="forwardnewsletter" action="forwardnewsletter.php" method="post">
<strong>Share with a friend. </strong> <br />
To send a copy of this newsletter to a friend please type the email address of the person you would like to forward this newsletter to below:
<br />
<input type="text" name="email" />
<br />
<br />
Please type your friends name below:
<br />
<input type="text" name="name" />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Please type your name below:
<br />
<input type="text" name="yourname" />
<br />
<br />
Please type your email below:
<br />
<input type="text" name="youremail" />
<br />
<br />
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Forward Newsletter" />
</form>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
Sample php mail script (to go in new php page named forwardnewsletter.php):
<?php
$email = addslashes(strip_tags($_POST['email']));
$yourname = $_REQUEST['yourname'];
$name = $_REQUEST['name'];
if (mail($email, $subject='Check out this great newsletter', $message='Your friend thought you might like a copy of our newsletter. You can check out this great newsletter at:
http://www.vrsioffice.com.', 'From: info@vrsioffice.com')) {
echo("<p>Message successfully sent!</p>");
} else {
echo("<p>Message delivery failed...</p>");
}
?>
Make sure to change the email address after From to your company email address.
Another simpler method that does not require you to know code is to use a form generator like JotForm (
http://www.jotform.net). With this you can create the form and generate the email with very little effort.
Hope this helps,
Julie
