Default stuck getting photos to align
working on client website, which I didn't build, but after making some additions last night to one of the pages, the photos don't align with the text any longer. you could see it at www.preciseselling.com/podcast. i've tried the basic align codes ,e.g., style="float: left", but nothing seems to work. any one out there able to look at this and give me some advice or pointers?

Thanks as always,
Trish

HI Trish,

You have your images in a separate table cell (td). Try placing the img after the p tag so it will display on the same line and then properly float.

Should work unless there are other conflicts going on. : )

Sorry and also for white space - add to your style tag add padding:0 15px 15px 0; and that will give you space on the right and the bottom.

thanks so much; i'm such a neophyte on this. any thoughts if i want the photo to nudge over to the left a bit more? I like the placement of the photo beneath it, but aligned of course.

i have a good question for you on this same page. the audio bar that I embedded keeps changing from "embed..." to just "image source". (the folks that built this site won't fix it w/o charging 95/hour, stating we must have done something to it). so i found the code from his old site, which displayed the audio bar perfectly and one could click on it and the podcast would start. The bar was showing up fine, but within the last 2 weeks, it fell off and in lieu of client paying the hourly charge, I thought I could replace the code with the embed, but just now when I went back into it, it doesn't read "embed..." any longer; it reads "image..." I manually made these changes last night and the audio bar was there and now it's not again and the term embed is not there. I'm confused, but you may be able to explain to me what/why this is happening.

Trish,

To move your photo's over to the left more there is a setting in the table to change:

<td width="78" bgcolor="#bcd3e2"></td> change the "78" to 8 and it will match the other images.

What page is the audio bar on?- I don't see it so can't help.

Hi Trish,

Christina is right it is taking up 78 pixels of space but if you want to align with the picture above you will need to probably do 17 pixels to align with the photo ad above. It might be that td cell to the left were originally designed to have the photos there. This is a heavily nested table website with tables within tables, divs are the norm for some time now.

Tables for layouts is pretty old school so it might be the code isn't lasting well as browsers update. Also your editor if you are using a WYSIWIG type interface may be automatically changing your code. Editors can be awful on javascript and it looks like they used javascript instead of an object tag for their Flash audio files for your player.

If you can find the original file - the original sequence for the audio tag needs to go back in there (if there is code missing) or contact the audio file host provider cyberears.com which is what your file is linking to to see if they provide drop in code.

Best wishes, Nancy

Trish,

You may want to take this opportunity to nudge them into revamping their website into something like Wordpress which is much easier to work with and will stay updated. Their site looks like it was made many years ago and it will not keep up with current technological trends for much longer.

thanks so much for your input/insight. the client just had his website redesigned. I wasn't involved so don't know what options or alternatives the design company offered. Perhaps they just took the old page and updated the design sans divs, etc. I just don't know.

A good point about the WYSIWYG in that the designed added that ability in the Joomla. The client wanted to be able to see the pages and not just the code, probably b/c that's what he got when he used Frontpage. When I make changes, that is, add new interview recordings to the podcast page I use the WYSIWYG feature.

What would one do to prevent the "embed" code that I grabbed from the old page (which was built using Frontpage) to not change? That is so the audio bar does "hold" so to speak.

I'm afraid I'm asking for free technical support, so please let me know if I'm wearing out my welcome.

Thanks again.

Hi Trish,

Is this in fact a Joomla website? I am not familiar with the editor for Joomla. In WordPress unless you are an Administrator level user (and using the HTML tab) you can't put in any javascript and other type embeds (Flash).

I did a google on "Joomla editor stripping javascript" (without quotes) and found an forum suggesting Jumi. Probably need to read the setup instructions.

Good luck!
