Hello,

My first site was a website builder (free) called Microsoft Office Live, which I disliked terribly.

My current site is a WordPress site but I'm having someone redo my site, also in WordPress but
with some extra cool coding.

I answered the poll using my first website choice - website builder.

Thanks,
Janine

I used Yahoo's web site builder that is included with their hosting service. It also includes a free listing on Yahoo Local. It was very easy to create and easy to maintain. It has all the features I need and a bunch that I don't need right now, but might in the future. I have looked at other web builders, but haven't seen anything that will give you as much for the price.

I used a WYSIWYG program to build my template and then moved it on to WP. I love it! I've also used Weebly for another site and it is a great choice for someone who needs something quick and free with little effort.

I created all of my sites, either using Headway or Optimize Press depending on what I'm doing. All WordPress based.

I create my own, either using Artisteer or Dreamweaver. It is one of the services that I offer. With the exception of one very old account that was converted to straight html from an old site builder program, everything I have done for myself or my clients is either in WordPress or Joomla

My very first website I designed and created using HTML. Because I am notorious for constantly wanting to update the design of my site, I decided to re-design my website a few years back and use Wordpress as my platform of choice.

My very first attempt at installing Wordpress was a total failure and I put it on the back burner for a while. Then I decided to create an educational series centered around Office 2007. I installed Moodle (an educational platform) from scratch. Turned out it wasn't so hard and I decided to give Wordpress a try yet again.

After watching a video that showed me step by step how to install Wordpress, I finally got it! It was a pivotal moment for me. Once I got the install completed, it was mostly smooth sailing from there on it... mostly because I do know CSS, HTML and PHP (PHP - just enough to get by).

NOTE: Be sure to backup your Wordpress website and files before playing around and tweaking with CSS, etc.

I like the flexibility of Wordpress. I enjoy tweaking templates more often then using them right out of the box as well.

Now, all of my websites are Wordpress based and when I set out to design a site for someone else, I usually utilize Wordpress. Primarily because updating and editing content is more often than not, a piece of cake. Of course, there are always exceptions to that rule.

Created mine using WordPress - first wordpress.com then switched to wordpress.org. Want to learn to do more customizing with the theme....in my spare time!

Great questions, and love reading everyone's responses.

mine is a bit different. I tried my hands on wordpress and a friend camealong and said he can improve it... it does improve as far as lay out is concerned and yet it is NOT finished coz my friend got caught up in his work... now I am thinking of just hiring someone to redo. (Note: my friend didn't ask for payment, the only problem with that is he thinks he can do it in his own time)...

My best friend's husband is a web designer, so he created my site for me. I guess it's a little harder working with someone else because there was a lot of back and forth. And since he's busy with his own clients it would take a few days before he'd get back to me with changes etc. Doing it yourself gives you a lot of flexibility to do things exactly how you want it. But I am happy with the end result.

I built my original site using the GoDaddy Website2nite software (or whatever its called ). I switched hosts a while back to have multiple sites and the site was rebuilt for me in WordPress. I'm still learning WordPress, myself.
