[Resource] Scanning Equipment Suggestions

This day and age going paperless is becoming more common for bookkeeping. My client wants me to start scanning all his bills. On TV I've seen a commercial for a device called "Neat Receipts." Has anyone used this particular piece of equipment or have suggestions for something reasonable in cost for a virtual bookkeeper.

I use it and love it. I opted for the portable scanner since I am on the road quite a bit but am also considering the desktop version as I picked up a new client who wants to go paperless and has "boxes" of paper documents.

I certainly would recommend Neat Receipts over the others because of the versatility to scan business cards, receipts and even documents. The nice thing about this company if that when new versions of software come out you have the option to purchase at an upgrade price.

I just purchased the Neat Desk and I also love it. I am so excited to not have to shuffle around paper at the end of the year!

Have you had it for awhile or did you just get it?

I have had it for about a month now. I am most excited to be able to generate tax reports so that I can integrate the information into our QuickBooks. They did have a 30 day trial going, just pay shipping for 30 days. You could check that out and then see if it is a piece of office equipment you want to invest in.

I haven't used the scanner that was mentioned, but do have the fujitsu scan snap. a bit pricey, but it works fast, scans both sides, and rarely jams which is important when scanning lots of contracts, policies, etc.

I've used the NeatReceipt desktop scanner for about 3 years now and LOVE it. I have clients that send me all their company receipts in a "next day" envelope. Normally, I would have to go through and scan each one separately or group them together on an 8x11 sheet of paper in order to scan them...but NeatReceipt desktop has the 3 ADFs -- top one for 8x11 sheets/documents; middle one for the glossy store/creditcard/restaurant recepts; bottoms one for business cards. Press the "scan" button, and the software scans the documents into the expense report.
Once everything is scanned in, I take a quick look at the expense report, might have to tweak an item or two (but not often); then I take the "Expense" report and export it as a .csv file into Excel, and send that Excel file back to the client.

It's a time-saver.

I have one of those All in one scan/copy/faxes. I have a scan app on my work tablet on the off chance I need to scan something and I'm not in my office. I can email it to myself from there. I thought about getting just a scanner,and then having everything be digital, but out of habit, and because I'm kinda old fashioned, I like having hard copies of EVERYTHING. So I have something that can do everything.
