This interview was fantastic, thanks.

This interview was very informative...and congrats Kylie on the nomination. I was wondering, how did you get into web design from a bookingkeeping/accounting background? Did it just happen after you started your business or before?

Hi Mel

I was studying education at university and we had to design an online portfolio for an assessment task. I loved it and did nothing about it at the time. My focus was on my degree.

Once I started my business I knew that I wanted a website and my husband gave me the confidence to design my first one. From there it snowballed into playing with code and tweaking. Soon I had clients asking me to fix their newsletters then design their newsletters and eventually their websites. I always made sure they knew I was inexperienced but they would always reply "Kylie, we know you, if you don't know how to do it you'll find out" and that's exactly what I did.

I'm now back at college (TAFE here in Australia) studying website design to 'fill the gaps'. I'm loving it!!!! My degree is on the backburner but I just sent in the mail today an application to transfer to an adult education major so I can teach/train adults instead of children next year. I still do bookkeeping but only select clients and AFTER seeing their file. I hate fixing messy bookkeeping and I'm glad to say that I'm in a position to say, 'sorry - no I don't think so'.

Great interview, it feels really good knowing that there are people out there with similar goals going through similar experiences. Very inspiring.

Hi Kylie,

I have just read your article - you are an inspiration to me. I started my VA business in February, so to read about your experiences is extremley helpful. Thank you for sharing!!

Barb

That was a great interview. It was very motivational for me as a newbie and I appreciate the honesty in your answers.

Hi Kylie

I read your interview in Executive PA magazine this morning and thought that being a VA could work for me. So, I came home and 'googled' your name and found you here (among a whole heap of other places!). Thanks for a great interview in the magazine and also here.

Bless you

Kim

Where can we get a copy of the magazine? Is it Australian or is there a place online we can order a back issue? I'd love to see this article!

Printed mag in Australia. http://www.executivepa.com.au/ is their website. The article is called My PA but I don't think it's available online. They might have sent Kylie a soft copy - guess she'll let us know.
