Default Google Search Tips
Check out this awesome infographic "How To Use Google Search More Effectively". There are great tips if you often do internet research for clients; as someone with a library background, I also love the "do not cite Wikipedia" and "use your local library" sections. Chock full of good advice!

Besides Wikipedia or any Wikis, you should also not cite ezine articles or blogs unless you can prove and cite the person who wrote it as an expert in the field. With today's focus on IT and social media, it is often difficult to find those current experts and many claim to be experts that one has to be careful. It also helps to see if you verify the facts. Unfortunately, you will always find experts to prove both sides of an argument in many cases depending on what you are trying to prove.

I agree about not citing blogs and ezine articlesMarcya, with the exceptions of market research or competitive analysis.

I agree. Even with market research and competitive analysis you can find statistics and experts. Just ensure the person you are citing has credibility and is a reliable source.

Sandy,
Thank you so much for sharing. This is a great article to clip and have handy. Not to mention that the visual diagram is so much easier to follow than straight text. Thanks again for sharing! This is quite the keeper!!!

It certainly is chock full of good advice. I was surprised by several of these; I never knew you could type a math problem into Google and get the solution. Knowing what search terms to use, and not use, will cut down my search time.
I found a list of keyboard shortcuts on Microsoft’s website that are also helpful:

I saved the link to your infographic into an Access database; I do this with all new sources I come across, along with a description. I used to hate it when I would find something interesting online, only to not be able to find it again later. When I was tutoring at the college, I taught my students that as soon as they find a useful source, to save the link into a Word document right away. I was tutoring one girl in a computer science class; she had a lot of trouble with the concepts (she still got a B in that class; she had a D when I started tutoring her). I reminded her to save, save, save, so often she joked at the end of the semester that was the only thing she learned.
I saw that some of the shortcuts, like the one to capture a screen shot, say to use the command key; is that the same as ALT?

Wow, I feel silly. I use google for EVERYTHING, and I had no idea you could search this way. Thank you SO much!

I printed this out and added it to my "Bible of Resources"!

Thanks again.
