I also ignore most of the applications because too many applications can cause your page to load slowly when someone clicks on it.

Re: Your Facebook account...is it business, personal or both?
My facebook account is about 95% personal. I do get some business questions through it, but I connect mostly with friends and family.

Re: Your Facebook account...is it business, personal or both?
I joined FB to do business, however, I learned that people like to do business with people they know and trust. I also think we all like to know "human beings", so defintely some personal stuff is warranted. Just keep in mind that what you do on FB is forever and potential employeers can view profiles. I found FB great for finding high school classmates for our upcoming reunion.

Re: Your Facebook account...is it business, personal or both?
I just recently (a week ago) set up my Facebook. I am currently using it for both personal and business. Having the business page sounds like something I would be interested in doing, though.

Re: Your Facebook account...is it business, personal or both?
My Facebook account is mostly personal, but I just went through everything the other day and revamped all the security settings. Unfortunately, you have to do this not only for the main setting (yes or no to be found in Google), but for each and every application you have. I have tried to keep my applications to a minimum but find I still have to go back every few months and delete a few.
I also added a link to my Facebook from my business site. Some people may want to connect that way, so I'd rather have the option there just in case. If you want to connect please do. I would like to get to know other VAs better!

I hadn't joined facebook yet because I was truly confused about its purpose lol ... I keep saying I'll go for it. I do know it will only be 1 account - I just dont have the time to keep up with more than 1.

Thanks for starting this string. I never thought about using FB as a networking tool.

I had never thought of Facebook as a networking tool, even though I have a personal page. This will be an interesting avenue to explore. Thank you!

I use my Facebook to reconnect with old friends and stay in touch with family. I use Myspace as my networking site.

I have a Facebook account, but I rarely use it. I've found it and MySpace to be a huge waste of time and fairly unprofessional. LinkedIn and ActiveRain are far better for professional networking.

Re: Your Facebook account...is it business, personal or both?
I have a facebook but it's personal.
I have a facebook page for my business, though: my url for that is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Julia-Neal/51556197069
That's a good option if you want to have your business on facebook as well as having your own personal page (just make sure you set your page to private or for your friends only) as facebook do have a habit of deleting 2nd pages (i.e. you having an account for your business as well as having a personal one)....

Re: Your Facebook account...is it business, personal or both?
Note....I am just getting the business started and so have not yet done any of these things. However, I used to have a business and know what I did for that business.
For me, I would have a professional blog that I created (which we have done) -- but not Facebook. I can always forward appropriate blogs from my personal blog (mine is actually at livejournal) over to the professional blog. I often times put stuff in my personal blog as educational items for my "friends" to see so that is not hard at all.
Then again -- Facebook itself comes with all sorts of other issues. Who does the content belong to? Does it get backed up? How professional does it look? I understand that Facebook gets traffic driven to it -- but, I can drive traffic to my personal blog, too.
No, I do not want professional and personal to mix.
With this said? I would just make a point of it to personalize the professional blog. I do not want it boring, but....mixing? Its too easy to mix those up. I am already working from home and just don't need to make it that much easier to get stuff scrambled.
I have to run or else I would write more,
LEsley
