Red face Twitter VS Facebook?
Is Twitter a better social media outlet compared to Facebook? Aren't they similar?

I read an awesome article today discussing the differences of Twitter/Facebook and how you should tailor your content.

How to Offer Unique Elements to Social Media Sites: Facebook and Twitter

Hope this helps.

Great article Cindy and I totally agree with Frank's description of the difference between the two forums.

I have to get on the ball on Twitter I still haven't set up a page. Interesting article! I will have to compare once I get the ball rolling which is hopefully very soon.

I have a Facebook fan page & Twitter account. I have my Facebook posts linked to my Twitter account. My Facebook "fan"s are totally different people than my Twitter followers. I will post to Facebook 5-6 posts per day to my target market. As for Twitter, I will post numerous articles (I don't count), re-tweet others, have exchange with people and more diverse subjects but always keep my market in mind. They are both ways to create visibility for yourself but very different ways of interacting and different audience. It's much harder to get Facebook fans than Twitter followers. To me, Twitter amplifies your messages much more than Facebook...but that's just me Ok, so I admit it...I'm totally hooked on Twitter!!

They are both great tools and each has their own benefits. Some people prefer one over the other and that's fine too. I think it's a good idea to have both as both do well in being indexed by search engines which can help you be found as well. If you prefer one over the other or if you only have time for one, then pick one to focus on over the other and build on it then keep the other updated. Driving traffic and/or engage where you feel more comfortable.

Great article, thanks for sharing. I think they are both great tools. I definitely prefer Facebook over twitter... I do have accounts with both, but rarely use my twitter.

I think I prefer Twitter and Linkedin over Facebook along with a blog on Wordpress. Complicated trying to keep my Facebook business page away from my personal page.

I don't disagree with his reasoning, that facebook is all about friends and family and twitter is about networking, new friends, new ideas. But for some reason I find his analogy of using High School and College quite insulting.

It comes across as someone who thinks that facebook users are some how less mature, more childish, less intelligent, inferior. That twitter is somehow more elite. Where that is simply not the case at all.

If you're going to use either for business, I think it's just a matter of which system you prefer and--if you can clearly identify it--what your target market prefers.

In my experience, saying that Facebook is more "for family and friends" than Twitter is not very accurate. If it were so, you wouldn't see pages for clothing stores, restaurants, movie stars, etc. there. I think the reverse is equally false. Fact is, there are people on BOTH networks who use them exclusively for personal communication as well as people who use them exclusively for business/promotion. And there are plenty of people who don't really draw any distinction between personal and business. (I don't advise that, but not everyone feels that way--and that's fine, too.)

It's funny. I don't have a Twitter account, and I no longer have a Facebook page for business. But I do write tweets on behalf of one of my clients and have been approached about writing FB status updates also. So I guess you could say that even some of us who don't use these networks for business, do business through them just the same.

I read a blog post today entitled Twitter vs. FaceBook – Which is Better? In this short post the author does not draw a conclusion. She actually remains neutral by saying "that it truly just comes down to the way one views and uses the sites that determines which platform is more worthwhile". She also goes on to say that "most of what you can do on Twitter, you can also do on FaceBook".

Which one is most likely to give you leads that turn into actual contracts? Twitter or Facebook?

I think they are QUITE different and I actually prefer Twitter over Facebook but everyone has their preference. I think that they can both be used for business if used properly.

As for which one resulted in leads. I have gotten more leads and actual clients as a result of Twitter over Facebook.
