wow, great info. I am really leary now about my whole wp site. Jules, what themes do you use on wordpress? Is your site a premium site, or just one from Wordpress? I went through and DELETED all the "FREE" WP themes, (just as a precaution) and went back to the standard theme that came with my wordpress.org install. I'd love to have a more custom site, but now I'm really re-thinking the whole blog thing!! Also, wondering if anyone else has any plugins they've used on Wordpress to back up, or secure their info!? Thanks!!

what does everyone use for their backup on WP? I went to the plug-ins page and found 14 pages of backup plugins, how do you know which one is the best, (or most secure?) Thanks!!

I use BackupBuddy from iThemes. You can do a backup of your whole site or just the data. I used this when I transferred hosting.

I have a WP site so I will definatly look into ways of protecting it. I have HostGator hosting and my site recently went down for a day. That was also a good warning that I should have backup of my site. Also, it's good to store all the information you wrote on your site in a safe place and backup your backups too.

Have you tried contacting your provider? It is always possible that they will have backed up information for you. Not likely but possible.

There is a Great Package I found called 6 span. Their prices are Very reasonable. http://6scan.com/pricing We are planning using their services to prevent this from happening again to us. We have been hacked as well from all things a comment that was left on a blog post. It is very frustrating and hours lost trying to fix. We also did purchase the Plug in Backup buddy which backup up the full site (pluggins, database and all) VERY easy to use and would also recommend.

There are lots of ways to hack a page. They can simply crack the login pw. Lots of ways to do that. Among other things. Thats why everyone should change their pw occasionally. Microsoft has a pw generator. Its free and excellent enough that you can even use symbols. Ill post the link after work.
