I hope this falls under this category. I have been doing a lot of reading on SEO and my question is when you want to improve your page ranking and SEO for your site, and you want to link to local businesses in your area, how or what do you search under to find the local businesses to link too? I am hoping that made sense because I want to improve page ranking but I read it is good to find local businesses to link to and I do not know how to find any local.

One of the best and easiest ways it make sure you are registered with Google places. This should put your map and such up in the ranking if they are searching locally.

Thanks for the information. I will look into that for sure as soon as I can. I was just trying to think how I would find local businesses to link with and didnt think about Google places.

I know this is a bit late in the game, Laura, but are you on LinkedIn? Often physical local networking groups will have their groups on LI. If they do, you could join the LI group and then find out about local networking events. Through this you might find others in your area wanting to share links with other local businesses. You might try Merchant Circle as well.

Hi Laura, I also wanted to share an article that discusses how linkbuilding can impact your SEO efforts, and what types of links you want to work to create. It's current for 2012 (at least for now) so should be useful.

I hope this helps!
