Thanks for this information. I want to add this service and was wondering if the certification would be beneficial.

Hi:

Exactly how does one become a certified Virtual Assistant? Who do you apply to? Is there an exam? The cost?

Thanks,

Penelope

Jcharlick, you can also try subcontracting with other REVA's out there who can help you "learn on the job" so to speak.

Kathi, while not every agent needs a VA to help with contracts, it's important to understand the terms involved, be able to navigate any MLS system with ease, knowing what happens during a transaction from beginning to end, and have a clear understanding of how marketing is different in the industry.

My 2 cents: don't spend a bunch of money paying for training to earn a certificate or designation. NOBODY cares about that. They'll know in one conversation with you whether you know what you're doing or not.

To April:

As a person who is certified, I do not feel you are correct when you say, "Nobody cares." I am sure those that care would not go to you. Therefore, you are wrong. I myself am certified in legal and real estate and it has helped me get jobs and be appreciated.

With respect to the certification of being a Real Estate Virtual Assistant, I feel if you do not have a real estate background, this certification gives you some credibility. Plus, the training will give you the lingo necessary to communicate with realtors.
I owned my own real estate company for 3 years, so when I talk to realtors to get new clients, I know what they are going through and end up selling myself. I'm sure alot of you don't have that background, so confidence and certification will go a long way to obtaining a new client. Best of luck.

For anyone still looking for REVA type training, Pam Ivey offers a Professional Real Estate Assistant Program at the VA Academy www.pamivey.com/vata.html. I have no personal experience with the course, but Pam was a founder of REVA, so I'm sure it is a comprehensive program.

I'll clarify that I meant that nobody cares to see your designation graphic. They really don't. When they speak with you, your knowledge of the industry needs to shine through whether you learned from a classroom or an office.

I've been thinking about adding specialties to my business and was wondering where to go with it. It seems like real estate and legal are hot industries for va's, are there any other industries that use va's regularly?
