Interesting article and I agree with her about not discounted rates just because the client uses more time, especially if you already have enough clients and are not looking to increase your client base. Even if you are not, why should one discount their rates?

That was a pretty good article. As a "newbie" it is helping me set my pricing. I also went into the article, "How to Increase Online Sales By 600%". I think I'm going to tweak my pricing now, I had about 7 pricing options!!

I wish I had read this article for thought before I embarked on my VA journey! Now having several clients, all at different rates makes me crazy! My time is valuable - and is worth a fair dollar. I do not need to discount my services to obtain work! To all you new VA's out there - be strong, and be realistic about what your true value is!

Great article! I know we have all struggled or are struggling with rates. This is a great eye opener!

Great article, Janine!

Clients are paying for your experience and expertise. Knowing what you're worth and why shows confidence in yourself and your abilities. I offer 10-, 20-, and 30-hour bundles, and there is no discount. Without blinking an eye or a single, a client purchased my highest bundle yesterday with these reasons: he can't do what I do; he needs my gift so he can focus on growing his business; and he's willing to pay what I ask because of the first two! That speaks volumes!

lisa4, I started another thread on this question, but you say 'they are paying you for your experience and expertise', which makes those of us who are new to VA think we ought to charge less since we don't have VA experience, and are shaky on if we have enough expertise (some of us, anyhow)....so that statement makes it hard for some of us to still know what to charge

Really great and straight-forward article. Especially helpful when you are just starting out and waffling a bit between what hourly rate to charge and whether you should offer packages etc.

I will keep it simple - simple for me to explain and simple for my clients to say yes please or no thank you.

Excellent information and thank you for posting!!

I look at it like this: Think of when you were working for someone else, they trained you how to do things their way even though you might have already had experience of some of the work you were doing, then as time past you became an expert in that field. So, yes, you are new to having your own VA business. Yet, you already know, have the experience, and the expertise in the services you want to offer.
