Default Rates
As for the rates for my VA business my question is if its okay to discuss what the project will be before displaying a rate. My plan was to add on my brochures that the rates will be negotionable instead of placing a chart with set rates.

It is YOUR business. It is OK to do whatever works for YOU. You may of course find that what works best for your clients will work best for you.

I do not advertise rates per se. My rates are decided individually. Some things are by the hour and some are retainer and some are by the project. I will also give a learning curve consideration if I have a new client. There are many considerations you may want to take into account as well that are specific to your business and the type of clientele you serve.

I hope this has helped or at least given you some food for thought. Good Luck!

Default Re: Rates
My bookkeeping and office support rates are set and published. However, I also do other small projects that are charged on a 'per project' basis, such as tweaking photos to remove/change backgrounds, build a graphic from a drawing, etc. These projects are calculated on a 'per piece' basis. I think the services being provided determine whether rates are hourly or per project...
