Default project rate instead of hourly rate?
I met with a potential client yesterday. He needs help in setting up email addresses for reminders to renew advertising. I discussed my hourly rate with him and even though he knows that he needs help, and he said that my rate was reasonable, he's not sure if he can afford me. Should I this task up as project instead of hourly?
If so how many hours should be included in this project?

If you decide to set this up as a project, do you know or can you estimate how long it will take you to finish the project. Clients tend to go for a project rate more readily than an hourly rate because they know exactly how much the project will cost them with no surprises.

As far as whether he can afford your services, I would detail how much time he would be saving by having you do this project for him and how he could use that time to do other things to grow his business.

Good luck!

If you set up a project rate be sure to give him specifics like x amount of renewals or emails. You could also offer to work with him on a trial basis so that he can see the benefit and you can adjust the hours based on actual use.

I would not lower or cut my rate as this may be what he is looking for from you. Find other alternatives so you are not locked into giving service at cut rates.
