Thanks for all of your great advice. In what format do you provide your finished product to the client? Such as a Word document via email, a hard copy in the mail, or a pdf?

Thanks for your help,

Kathie

Hi Kathie!

The software I use to provide the finished transcript in is whatever the client wants that I can provide. I type everything in Word, but can provide the transcript in either PDF or text as well. (I also have the ability to use Works or WordPerfect, but have never been asked for those.) I send the transcript to the client by e-mail, but would mail or share through Dropbox or Google Docs if that's what the client desired. The actual format I type the transcript in is, again, whatever the client needs! I have a default that I use, but always run that by the client to make sure that will work.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the breakdown Viki, I am currently trying to set up different pricing options, maybe I will add to those levels by giving two different options concerning rush jobs and longer turn around times.

I had a contractor in India until they changed their billing, they now charge by the line. Which is almost impossible to quote since I have no idea how to determine exactly how many lines the transcription will be. There are too many variables: letter vs. landscape view, margins, font and font size, etc.

My two biggest transcription clients are happy with the above rates as they can figure out for themselves what it will cost for us to transcribe for them.

Hope this helps and good luck!
Thanks for posting this. I do not specialize in transcription but I have two clients I work with on other things that I do this for. Your rates are about what I charge them for it when its broken down. I do them all myself.

I have not had a client who required transcription, therefore I never realized there were so many variables involved. I may need to adjust my pricing structure to include this type of service if required without a package. Currently I offer an 8-hour, 20-hour, 40-hour, and customized package.
