I want to say thanks Tess for sharing the information along with everyone else's comments and feedback. I have been back and forth on retainers and this has been amazing and helpful information. I like the option as well. I have clients that prepurchase time by the week and those that pay hourly every two weeks. I think being flexible on that is beneficial depending on the client and the project - I'm sure we all have crossed that needy client that wants all our time without paying for it or giving us a hard time!

That's a great article. I wondered what you thought about my idea to offer two types of relationships: 1) require a retainer from clients who want to hire me on a project or hourly basis and 2) for those clients who want my services for a set number of hours per week -ask for a contract to be signed and not require a retainer, but give a discount to these contract clients if they elect to pay a retainer.
