Question Is there an iPhone App for collecting email addresses and names?
Hello,

I have a client who collects email addresses and names when she teaches a class.

Lately, these have been coming over to me on a scanned sheet, handwritten, sometimes difficult to read.

I suggested she place a laptop or an iPad on a desk and ask the students to input their names and email into a database but these classes are large so I feel that one device would not be an efficient process.

I don't own an iPhone (yet!) but my client does. I was thinking that she could pass around her iPhone during the class for students to input their contact information into Excel. (I am thinking Excel because then I could receive the file, and upload that to an autoresponder program.)

So my question is this...is there an iPhone app for data collection that anyone can suggest which will allow for Excel?

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Janine

There's an application called "SnapDat" that lets you create business cards on your IPhone. You can select different designs and input their info right into the design you select. Try that and see if that will help.

I didn't research this much but this is what google came up with
http://mailchimp.com/features/chimpadeedoo/

3 different site's I went to listed this as the best offline email address collector.

Hope it helps,

This is very interesting, Joy. I took a quick look and it appears that email addresses can be input into an iPhone. I don't know if that list can be sent to me or downloaded to a computer and then sent to me in some usable format. I'll have to check that out. But that could be quite promising.

Thank you for sharing that information and for taking the time to research that for me.

You are welcome. I have an iPhone...if I get a chance today I will download and play with it and get back with you. If this works I am sure it will help many VA's as a lot of business associates use iPhone/iPad.

Good luck in the mean time,

The chimpadeedoo app will upload the data your Mailchimp account, and there should be an option in Mailchimp to download the data as a .csv file which you can open up in Excel. Here's the relevant support article:

http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/can-...rom-mailchimp/

Another option would be to use Wufoo (http://wufoo.com/) in combination with the "Entries" iPad app (http://overcommitted.com/entries). Wufoo is more general purpose than Mailchimp, and you can also download data to Excel from that (in addition to the online reporting it offers).

Hope that helps

Tim

Thanks, Tim.

I have a MailChimp account and just finished testing that a few minutes ago. I asked my client if she wanted to pass around her iPhone in class to get people to sign up using the app. I did download the CSV file. Worked well! It was a great suggestion.

She doesn't have an iPad and I nixed any iPad options. But she does have an iPhone and I thought it would be a much more portable device to pass around the class than an iPad anyway.

But I will eventually need an iPad suggestion and you were ahead of the game to suggest that! Thank you so much for your help, Tim!

Joy,

Thanks for checking back.

Actually, I was able to test the app and it worked quite well. I wrote up a proposal for the client.

Honestly, I just hated to see the client pay my rates for data entry, which I don't really do anymore. So there was a cost-savings to client to recommend this app.

As long as I have access to the MailChimp account, I can download the file into Excel and then upload to 1shoppingcart.

Thank you again for your suggestion.

Janine
