Default Google Voice Free for Clients to call?
I'm signing up and it's asking me to choose my area code/city. I assumed that the number would be 877 or 800, free for clients to call.

Do you know if I can operate a fax on the GV number also?

Still researching...thanks.

Maryann

I dont think you can operate a fax and I personally think it shouldn't be a big deal if it's not an 877/800 number. When you call a business, do they normally have 877 or 800 numbers? No, they usually have numbers local to the area they're in.

Many businesses do have 877/800 numbers, but I went with my area code anyway. I checked out the websites on this forum and they had area numbers like you said. I did find that you can operate a fax but it's complicated. Thanks for your response.

My fax machine works fine through Google Voice for receiving faxes. If I know I'm going to receive a fax, I turn on the machine and let it auto-answer. It will pick up the redirected call from Google Voice.

If I'm sending a fax it goes out on my regular home number. No big deal.

Thanks Linda. I came across some seagulls today. I still love the sound of them, even though there are like flying rats.

I have Google Voice; however I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I purchased a book that breaks it down. Hopefully I will be able to read it soon and learn all of the features.

What's the name of the book that you purchased about Google Voice? I am definitely interested in that. I have a Google Voice number with an LA area code although I am based in GA. I didn't realize that you could send and receive faxes using the google voice number. I also have a client that uses google voice and because I am switching back and forth would love to figure out the better way to handle it. One rings on the land line and one rings on my mobile...however, i go to the website to make outbound calls and use the contacts list.

would love to learn all of the tricks that there is to know on this since it seems like it's going to be my friend for a while

@ Maryann, were you actually able to get a 800/877 number if you wanted too? I too recently signed up for Google Voice, haven't had much use out of it yet but I would like a toll free number too if they offered it. It's not a really big deal just a preference.

As far as the fax, I had no Idea GV allows faxes, is this a free service as well??
