Dana...how did your meeting on the 19th go?

I just had my 3rd problem with PayPal and just cancel them. Someone open another account using my email and my clients have been sending payments to that account. I have tried to contact PayPal several times (customer service was great) and they were unable to correct the problem.

I had closed the account and every account that was used for sending payments was closed and there were 3 additional accounts that I was unaware of (open by someone else).

My advice is to check your PayPal account often, I still like them but I decided to go back with my old provider.

I accept credit cards through a merchant account, but also accept payments from PayPal from two of my clients. One is in Canada and the other uses Discover ... which I detest. Discover went from a $5 a month fee for a measly $210 payment to $15!!!! I went back toPayPal with this client. PayPal doesn't charge the sender a fee ... just the receiver. So far, I've never had any problems with PayPal.

With all of the horror stories I've been hearing about PayPal, I'm getting a bit leery about using it for client payments. Their chargeback policies don't give the service provider a break at all. I may continue to accept PP for the two clients I'm already using it with, but have taken it off of my website as a payment option.

Actually, they do to a degree...at least as long as it's not a credit card payment.
We had a recent issue with a former client who literally stole and resold custom code we'd licensed to her for use on her site (she distributed it without compensating us to a franchisee within her company who wanted the same site - totally against our terms of service) so we responded as per our terms of service.

In retaliation this client went in and tried to chargeback EVERY SINGLE invoice she'd paid over the prior two month period for services already rendered.

Paypal didn't give her a cent (she paid with eCheck and straight Paypal funds each time) - their reasoning was that it is impossible to prove non-delivery of virtual services.

Now, had she paid with credit card via Paypal she would have had more leverage b/c then she can go straight to her provider and start a chargeback.

Hello Everyone!!

I have been dealing with PayPal for many years now - I used to buy and sell on EBay and the company I work with right now pays me weekly through PayPal. I have never ever had a problem with them and about a year ago I signed up for their Security Key!! It is the best $5 (cost at that time, and only a one-time fee) I ever spent. No one can get into my account with out my security key number and that number changes every so many seconds. It is really worth having and of course - a tax deduction :-) I do have a premier business account and I think the most I have ever had to pay for recieving money is like $5 - it is on a sliding fee type of deal. You can get more information on thier website and then go to the security tab. I wouldn't do it any other way, and I can also accept credit cards!! PayPal really is the way to go - and with the Security Key is very very safe. Their Customer Service ROCKS too!!!

Kath

Tess, when you build in the percentage that paypal charges for you to receive money do you itemize that on your invoice or is just built in as part of your fees?

I itemize it on every invoice against the subtotal. Also, not sure if I already mentioned this here yet but we are now allowing clients with good payment history to pay by check mailed direct to our bank, this saves the Paypal fees all the way around and now that our rates are higher it just isn't as easy to rationalize passing the % on to clients.

I create little packets of pre-addressed, stamped envelopes, each one with our branded deposit slips inside, and send them in batches to clients who pay by check.
