Default Client Intake process
My target market is small business owners, just like many VA's. The new client process- contracts, instructions, logins, process-building,- seems so complicated. Clients are generally trying to simplify their duties- how do you present all of the little details?

I have a client interaction map that guides clients through the steps but I am always looking for ways to simplify.

I educate my clients and tell them that the extra time spent up front will benefit them for a long time. Anything worthwhile takes more work in the beginning to reap benefits later...whether it is training, developing processes (the right way), setting up a project (the right way). You won't be serving their best interest in the long run if you take short-cuts now. That's what I tell my people.

It's the truth, and short-cuts will almost always come back to haunt you.

What kind of feedback do you get from clients?

I second and third and both Pam and Sandy. Doing it right the first time is always best, and it will take longer in the beginning but the payoff is so worth it.

Hello and you raised an excellent question SandyM. I do agree with the other posts, do it right the first time. Your reputation is at stake. Currently, I am in the process of rebuilding my website. My plan is to have a an Introduction Video, a What to Expect Video (for first time clients), and a training webinar and video on using my online collaboration tool. The potential new clients will have and idea of what to expect when contracting with me and hopefully keeping them from being overwhelmed by the little details.

Jody,

I love your idea of the videos on your site! That delivers the message quickly and with simplicity. It could also make clients feel less intimidated than when they see a page of text. Good idea!

Thank you very much. Putting a new client at ease in the early stages of the contract is vital to obtain and retain them. I believe in working smarter not harder and if they have an idea of what to expect it will make the early stages of the new relationship much easier for all parties involved.
