Default Re: Are business networking events beneficial?
I personally love networking! I have not joined any groups as of yet as they are pricey, and there are always events taking place that are completely free of charge in my area.

Someone said most are going about this in the wrong way, and I totally agree. I know I did the first few times I went, but then I had an a-ha moment. People love, love, love to have someone to listen to them. They love it when you laugh at their jokes, when you listen intently to their business ideas, etc. Commenting when appropriate, but being careful not to encroach on their speaking time can be difficult. We want to sell, sell, sell... I know I do. I'm excited about my business and what I have to offer others. I know what I do is very valuable and I just can't wait to share that with people, but if you wait till the right moment it is received so much better. If you listen, listen, listen first. Let them know you care, show them you are interested, and allow them to develop a trusting connection with you it goes a long way. Even if that person is not the right client for you or you the right VA for them if they feel good about you then the next time someone says, "I really need help!'. They will say, "I just happen to know a great lady/man who I think can help."

Plus, by truly listening first when your time does come to talk you will know just exactly what to say and how to say it because you will now know what they do, what they need, and a bit about their personality.

Every time I go to something I make connections. It's a great way at building your network and gaining new clients in my experience both online and offline. Although, offline is nice because it is more personal.
