I have referred people to others and have not looked for any type of fees, I just know that now I'm up and running, referrals will be coming my way as well.

I like the gift idea rather than the referral fee. If I personally know the VA then a thank you gift can be personal and a bit easier but if I dont know them well what is a good gift? Office Max gift certificate because they can always get something for their home office that they really want? Any better suggestions??

When a client refers someone to me, I have give that client a $25.00 discount on their next invoice upon payment from the client that was referred to me. Is this something that others do as well?

Gifts can be frowned upon escpecially with Corp entities. it is looked at as a form of bribing.

Good Luck!

I am also in aggreement with the gift idea, although if I am referring to a business then a referral fee would be appropriate. I would say around 15%-20%??

I hadn't given referral fees any thought as I have thought about my procedures. I don't know that I want to include these kinds of dollars in my budget--not that I necessarily could afford them in the first place. On the other hand, I think a gift is a nice token for a nice favor. I think I'd rather build a solid working relationship with other VAs than to think about receiving money from them.

I'm new to the VA business and while I would love to receive referrals once ready I will keep on top of this site and refer others to clients when it makes sense. I think referrals are a great gift to another VA and the client and it's a great way to pay it forward =)

Thanks all!

I believe in helping each other out both with referrals and a little financial push. The typical referral I receive is from another VA who does not have the skillset I do. Often, I will offer to collaborate with the VA who is sending the lead to help them gain this skillset. But when it isn't something he or she is comfortable doing, I will pay out $25 for most qualified leads. Keep in mind - this is only on referrals that pay well.

I agree with Janine, I would consider a flat fee.

I haven't ever heard of a referral fee, but I do send out a nice gift or gift card when I receive a referral from another VA or client.
