Curious Caroline, did you ever make a decision what direction you went? It looks like you posted in November so maybe you've had time to think.

Even though I am new to the industry and business ownership, I am exploring whether I should start as a multi-va business. I think there's more potential and it expands what I can offer prospective clients.

I know that most VAs don't start as a multi-practice; rather their workload grows to a point where it just goes there.

But I've wrestling with this for days, and I think should start as a multi and establish relationship with VAs who are willing to sub align a partnership.

I would want to start talking to other VAs VERY soon, so what sayest thou?

Thanks, everyone!

Caroline

I want to use people who may be interested in subcontracting, but I am not interesting in leading a directing a team. Still trying to iron out how I would do that.

If you don't want to lead or direct a team, I would not do it. Even if you subcontract to other VA's you will need to lead and direct them into your company's values and terms.

I own a Multi VA practice, and even if you are subcontracting you need to manage and delegate and deal with client issues between the VA's ect.

We are starting as a group practice! It is great to have a wide skill set but on MY the organizational things are taking longer than we expected. We have finally started to assign responsibility and authority for different things to individuals rather than waiting for agreement on every step!

Anyone else gone through this?

This is the question I am currently wrestling with - putting together a VA team to handle the work I can bring in. I have clients now asking me about the VA that I work with and if I have other VAs for different types of services. I, of course, want to capitalize on this because I am introducing the concept of working with a VA to professionals who have never considered the prospect before.

My concern is delivering the caliber of service that my clients would expect. I really have to put this team together before offering the service too.

Right now I am solo....but I have given a lot of thought to adding VA's for more specialized services...and I do have people in mind, just need to get the business in now.

I've been doing this kid of as a side business to a few friends or clients. One of my friends wanted to do this as a business together since I'm getting busier from referrals. Is two assistants to small to start? or should we also hire a third backup.

I would suggest that someone who is interested in starting a multi-level va business that is not accustom to working in the virtual environment -- should wait. Even though you are hiring VAs that have prior experience, you need to educate yourself in everything they do. This will be beneficial if someone all of sudden drops off the face of the earth and your client requires immediate assistance. With the knowledge and skillset, you can at least keep things a float until you get someone to replace the person that left.
