Smile Greetings fr Singapore
Hi everyone.

I worked in a financial institution for 6 yrs. Now, I'm a stay-at-home mom.

I'm hoping to start my own VA biz early next yr and eager to learn fr the rest of you.

Is it possible for a VA to work part-time eg when the kids are in daycare (half a day)?

Jas

Hi Jas

First of all, welcome to our community. Secondly, if you work part time then you will make it work. I started my business 34 weeks pregnant with my third child and now, 2 years later I am about to move into office space because I've outgrown my home office.

My eldest is at school, my middle child will start school next year but is in preschool part time this year and my youngest is in childcare part time. Not because I can't work with her around me but because she is such a little social butterfly and she thrives on the extra attention at child care (she is one of the youngest in the centre and very cute - I'm biased though lol).

So yes it is possible to work part time with the kids in day care!

Good luck!

Welcome Jas!

One wonderful thing about owning your own business is that it enables you to make ANYTHING is possible. It's up to you how you want to work, where to work, and how many hours you want to work. You are the BOSS.

So if you want to work part time while your children are in daycare - sure! Why not?

Hi Kylie,

Thanks so much for yr reply.

Gosh, you put me to shame. Here I am complaining daily about lack of sleep (I have twins) and wondering how on earth I'm ever going to find time for my biz, and you managed to build up a successful biz with 3 kids (just read yr interview).

I'm debating whether or not to offer bookkeeping services. Can't seem to figure out the logistics. For instance, how does the client send u the invoices/POs/receipts, etc.? I can't imagine anyone sitting next to the fax machine/scanner for hrs just to fax/e-mail docs to his/her VA.

Hi Jas!

Welcome to the forums!

Yes, it's possible to work the hours you are suggesting. I have to make 3 trips out everyday but manage to get things done in a timely manner. You have to juggle time a bit some days but it is so worth it.

Deirdre

Hi Jas, welcome!
Singapore is truly one of my favorite countries to travel to/in. Your country is one of the cleanest and most beautiful places I've ever been. I remember how well manicured everything was - incredible! And the shopping was amazing as well

I don't have a child yet so don't have the benefit of experience in answering your particular question (I'll be learning as I go after she makes her appearance in August) but the great thing about being a VA is that you are working from home on your own hours so you're the boss and you decide how to manage your time.

There are so many VAs here who keep their children home with them and still keep their clients happy.

Like any business, it takes dedication and focus to make a virtual assistance practice successful but it's well worth all the effort!

Thanks for the warm welcome and yr advice.

Tess, glad you enjoyed yr visit. Do come again - there will be more to see, do and taste. New malls & restaurants, first F1 night race this Sept and 2 integrated resorts in 2010.

Welcome Jas,

You will find plenty of information here on this forum to help you start your business.

Personally I have one son who is in primary school (8yrs) and is out from 9am to 2.30pm so I work during those hours but I sometimes get on again when he is in bed later in the evening. So it is possible to develope your business around school/daycare times.

I have also visited you country mind you it is 19yrs ago this month. Time flies. As Tess has said, it is so clean and beautiful, i was on my way to Australia and stopped off in Singapore for 3 days. I may get back there again once I get a successful business under my belt to visit those new malls.

Good luck with your business.
