Question # of posts = certain threads?
Hi everyone,

I don't know where to place this thread so I'm picking here.

I've clicked on some posts and have been unable to enter because I didn't have a certain # of posts. I finally made my 25th post but I don't know "what that gets me into?"

Is there an explanation somewhere to the # of posts = certain threads? I love it here because everyone seems to be so helpful.

Thank you for helping me out.
jan

Hi Jan, your question has been moved to the Forum FAQ and Feedback section.

We don't currently have a listing of how many posts will gain access to which sections of the site (mainly because as the site has grown and changed so have those things been in flux as well), but it's a great idea to provide a breakdown and we've added it to the VAF to-do list.

In the meantime, 25 posts means you can send Private Messages to other members. There are also numerous private forum sections that require at least 5 but less than 25 posts before being accessible - this is an extra barrier in place in order to further protect member privacy in forums where sensitive information or less 'professional' topics might be discussed such as the Brags and Inspiration forum or the Client Relations Issues forum, to name just a few.

We'll be sure to announce when the breakdown of post count to access points is available for viewing. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh, Super! I remember now that I must have tried to send someone a PM and I got the notice - which I appreciate the privacy settings.

Thanks.

Did the list of what's available at what levels ever get posted? I have to say that while I like the idea of making info available to people who contribute, I am a little paranoid about making sure my posts "contribute enough" with all the warnings on being banned if you're posts aren't good enough. I think I'm posting less than I normally would out of that fear. Do I really need to be worried about being banned, or is that just the Type A rule follower in me over-thinking and over-worrying?

Sarah, those rules are meant to keep people from running up post count with lots of "Thank you's" and "I like that!'s" in order to gain access to the premium features. As long as your posts are thoughtful and contribute to the conversation you are fine

People only get banned for blatantly spamming the boards or for being rude to other members or the admin (neither of which happens all that often.)

Relax and have fun - there's a great community here and we're glad you're a part of it!

Thanks for the reassurance! (Oh, wait...am I allowed to say just that? )

Thanks for building the community also - I am wishing I had found it a few years ago, but am thankful for finding it now.

I was wondering the same thing so I'm glad you asked. I try not to post unless I'm adding something of real value, but sometimes there's not much to add other than "great info" or "Thanks for the info". :-( I don't want to get in trouble for doing that too many times.

Genuine gratitude toward fellow members is fine - the rules are spelled out to get the attention of those who would post simply for the sake of raising their post count.

We'd all rather read a true conversation of shared info and support than a long string of pointless posts placed only to raise post count, right?

Thanks for your comments!
