What is my niche?
I would love some of your valuable input and feedback.......I am a new VA, though I was at my job the past 18 years and did do some of my work from home. I was laid off in February and looking to put my skills to good use. I know there's more than just acquiring the skills and years I've had them, there is the whole business aspect as well. I have a little bit of a foundation from my other business I started a few years back.
I was in the medical field, though I am wanting to venture away from medical and use my Admin skills for a client. If I am venturing away from medical, what would my idea target client be? Who would you target in terms of specialties/businesses?
I want to specialize in:
Calendar maintenance
Email
Word processing
Spreadsheets
Data Entry
Light bookeeping
Database management
Travel arrangements
Social media management
Just to name a few.......I have more skills than this but basically your general Admin. Duties.
Thank you

Re: What is my niche?
Hi,
I would think that one of your niche's may be medical billing/coding, transcription. There is great demand always for this skill set. I know you mentioned you wanted a change, then how about legal transcription. Seems that you have to consider where there is the most demand at the time you are setting up your service.
Just a thought
Hope this helps

Re: What is my niche?
Hi,
Thank you for your input. I never did medical transcription where I worked, as the physician's dictated over the phone thru a system nor medical billing/coding so I don't think this would quite be my niche.
I am looking to offer more of my general administrative duties that I have learned over the years in and apply them to another niche. I'm just not sure what that might be? Contractors, small business owners, etc??
I just need some help on figuring out who my target market of clients would be. Those of you who have these skills, who did you target when you started marketing yourself?

Re: What is my niche?
Hi Amberfay,
Nice to meet you. Your niche could encompass small biz, non-profit organizations, government, entrepreneurs, etc...there is a list. However, a good indication may reflect your personal interest background and present skill set, and market demand. Offer specialties that you truly enjoy doing.
What industry are you looking to work in? You mentioned contractors? Each industry has it's requirements for what you should be knowledgeable in. I draw my expertise from years of experience in the entertainment industry/radio/television infomercials as a "right hand" to a producer. As well, I finished a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management last year, and have been providing virtual admin/exec support, analysis, creative and technical services to a entrepreneur since 2003. Before that I worked in retail, and before that I managed an image consulting biz (from home), provided workshops for others to provide same service.
There are virtual assistant training programs, certifications, books that can steer you in the right direction. It's a good idea to join various networking groups as well for continued support. I know that this forum will definitely assist. I am still working on my website to upload.
Hope this helps

Re: What is my niche?
Hi Amberfay,
Welcome to this forum. This is a great place to find out info to get started. I am not new to the VA concept but I am a new business owner. I also possess these skills and I am targeting small business owner, especially women. Network with local places in your area for starters, get your name and services out there. There are alot of small business owners who also work from home but just need some support.
Also another idea is small construction companies, local small attorneys, Spiritual or Natural Healers, Coaches (life coaches), Social Workers etc. Good luck!!
