Default Event Planner Niche? - Anyone?
Hi Everyone,

I have an opportunity to work with a event planner and I only have a million questions. Basically I see planners need a web presence so they need to blog. And that's where I come in.

Is anyone else working with planners? Can someone give me suggestions on what other type of services a planner would need? (I have no web design experience.)

Thank you.

When you say services, are you meaning what you can provide for them?

I am confused as you write they need a web presence however you have no experience... So are you looking for services that you can provide to them based on your own skills?

Hi Lee,

I see that I was not clear. I was looking for another VA who has worked with event planners. I wanted to pick their brains to see what other services they would need.

And I was saying that since I have experience in writing, I can blog for them. Thank you for asking me to clarify.

I do work with event planners: researching venues and contracts, managing steps to the events, touching with clients (contract returns, information needed, etc) travel arrangements for out of town guests and follow up with their itineraries, working with the printer for invitations and/or programs.

I am sure there are other things I am just not thinking of off the top of my head.

Lee hit it right on target. I'm the co-owner of a wedding/event planning business and the list is endless on how a VA can help free up our time that's needed to spend with clients. Feel free to PM me if you have more in depth questions regarding servicing wedding/event planners.

Question on the event planning niche - I have event planning experience and this would be something I would enjoy doing, but does the VA have to attend the event or be at the venue at all? This is something I would not be able to do. Thanks

I've done event planning at my old secretarial job. It was our annual conference that we had each year where hundreds of social workers from miles around would come to attend workshops so they could get their hours. While I was planning this event, I had to establish rapport with vendors, collect and deposit funds that came in (registration), consult with a caterer about food prices, do paperwork for tables, meals, make signs, keep up with registration, do some conflict resolution, design the name tags, and then I was at the event for BOTH days making sure that everything was a success. Phew. Yeah. It was something. But I got the experience. So I'm not complaining.

Hi everyone. I"m new to the forum, but glad that I saw this post. As I'm putting my services together, one of the areas of focus I would like to work in is event planning. In my experience in working as an Executive Assistant for the past 15 yrs in Corporate America, and having a business outside of EA work, I've done some event planning. Most of the things you will be responsible for doing as an assistant were mentioned above. What I would recommend is start making connections with vendors and have a few go to vendors that you can rely on for different things. It would be good to have those contacts (at least a few) before you offer events planning services so you don't find yourself scrambling around looking for them when a client needs something right away. It shows your client that you already have what it takes to make things happen.
