Hi Linda,

Do you have a list of your services on your website or you don't have a website yet?

If you don't have any listing to refer your customer then you should create a listing of your services so it is clear what your skill set really is.

The way this works is that YOU are the one who provides the solutions to the customer's problems, not the other way around. You do this through a consultation. You have a conversation with him/her and determine what the needs may be and then you offer your skills as a solution to those problems.

It is not that he gets a list of services from you and then he decides what he wants or does not want. You have your own list of expert skills and you market your services toward clients who need those services. You do this through having a web presence.

I think you were looking for an answer as to how you should present your skills to this client. I really believe you should contact him and ask for a consultation and then determine if you can help him. It is not an interview for a job.

And there may be cases where what you can offer is not what he needs. I've had many consultations where I have said this is not my area of expertise and I will gladly recommend someone else for the job. Or, I have said I can do XYZ but I can get someone reliable to do ABC for you.

I can't check out your website or any of your links to offer you any further advice.

Janine

Thank you. I am having a meeting with him next Friday. He is our town councilman. He wanted to know what my skill set was. I am in the process of getting a website together.

Since you don't have your website up yet, try putting together a brochure about your business. Keep it focused on what you can do for clients. This would be something you can give to him along with your business card.

A marketing piece, like a brochure, is always a great thing to have handy! If it were me, when I saw him, I would try to set up a phone consultation and give him the brochure to look at in the meantime.

Best wishes!
