Alison.com
I found them while doing a search. They say all courses are free... even the "diploma" course for social media marketing

Would love to hear about anyone's experience with this site.

Thanks! Nicole

Hi Nicole, I hadn't heard of this site and took a peek... While it looks like a well-designed, nicely-presented site I'm not sure I'd approach it more just in terms of acquiring more knowledge and less with the idea that the 'certifications' will carry much weight, although certainly the badges might impress some potential clients.

Learning something new is ALWAYS a good thing though - good for your business, good for your clients, good for your bottom line.

If you do sign up for one of their courses I'd love to hear your feedback and experience.

Nicole, if you do try one of the courses, please let me know how it goes. Could be a useful learning tool, although I agree with Tess that the certifications may just "look good on paper".

Lynda.com is a great site. I learned how to build my website with the training courses offered. It is relatively inexpensive enough, you don't have to sign up long term. If you want to discuss this further contact me directly.

Regards,

I bookmarked it and will be signing up for some of their courses. I'll let you all know if I start getting spammed.

I have taken courses on Alison.com and have learned from them.
I didn't bother paying for a certificate because I just didn't think they would be very valuable. If they have a couse you're intereste in, I suggest you try it. The courses really are free and the only email I ever receive from them is an update on new courses. I think I had to sign up to be updated on new courses and receive their newsletter (i dont' remember). My only complaint with Alison is that when it comes to computer classes, a lot of it is for earlier versions of software and if you have the latest version (ie. Microsoft 2007/2010) you're of luck.
I hope this information helps you.

I signed up and I haven't gotten spammed. I'm taking the FB social media course. It's very basic (how to set up an account, etc.) but I learned a couple of things I didn't know. I am looking forward to the other two social media sections (more advanced courses). I am really enjoying the course...kinda like a little refresher course. So far it's been good.

I am going to try it out and will let you know!

Don't know about Alison.com, but http://www.gcflearnfree.org/ has some good courses. Recently took the MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2007 courses as a refresher and found them very helpful.
