I've thought about becoming a virtual assistant for a couple of years.
Admittedly, it's usually when money is tight and I'm trying to think of a way to get more in. Not the best time to try to get a new business off the ground! Right now though, I'm really stopping and thinking. And Working on it! It's definitely not a get-rich-quick scheme. However, it IS something that I really want to do, so it's worth the time and effort that it will take.
Thinking over skills that are salable is both heartening and exciting - whoever thought that scanning in documents would be in demand? Yet, if there's someone out there who doesn't have time - that's a client! Woot!
The idea that I have control over what I want to do - versus what I know how to do, but don't like doing - is heady. My job usually consists of doing what I have to, doing what needs to be done, whether or not I really want to do it. Of course, that's good training for the rest of life! But when it comes to a business of my own, I want to be doing something that I'm passionate about, not just able to do it. When you are passionate about something, it's a joy to get others interested.
So for now, I'm thinking of a business name. Working on how to set up a website. Brainstorming what I can offer to clients. Getting wonderful information from everyone else on the VAforum. Being overwhelmed, but still excited! And, above all, happy about my decision.
