University of Self Taught

The deeper I wade into the Sea of Virtual Assistants, the greater my understanding of how much stuff there is to learn. Being up on the latest products, software, systems, electronic gadgets, etc., is literally overwhelming.
I love to learn and have found myself taking a couple days off from the books and research to allow my brain to digest all this information.
I am discovering that you can have all the skills, training, and experience in the world to make you a successful VA, but if you are not up on the latest in technology, you are nothing. As a novice in being a VA so many questions are swirling through my head. The lists of this and that to use are endless. How does one choose what is best for them? Why is a site for contacts better than good ole outlook? Why mailchimp when I haven't created a list of contacts for sending newsletters? When and why do I need to set up programs like this? Are they important from step one or should I wait.
Or how about....I might just be over analyzing this whole thing?
What ever the answers might be, I am grateful for the experience of other VAs. It is nice to know that others are willing to share about their trial and error so I can make a more informed decision. But the University of Self Taught is a place every VA has and continues to attend.
And hey, in 10 years the chances are, we will all that we use today will be obsolete and something new will have taken its place!
Just my overwhelming thoughts on today.
