Re: Do you approve/moderate your comments
I also use Akismet and find it works really well at removing spam though on my business blog I am yet to get any comments!!! I feel that some of the other ladies are right in saying comments are there to express peoples opinions and help continue the conversation and differing opinions are a fantastic way to find out more about your readers and what makes them tick so no, I don't moderate my comments though I will always remove any inflammatory or abusive comments as this is a community with discussions not a bar room brawl. Counter my opinion with your own, I like it but abuse is uneccessary and unacceptable. Keep an eye but don't worry too much unless you have to is my advice!

Re: Do you approve/moderate your comments
I get an email notification as soon as someone comments so they don't have to wait long before it is approved. Giggle for the day: Last week I received a long totally nonsense call on my 800 number ... maybe they misdialled Alcoholics Anonymous?

Re: Do you approve/moderate your comments
I'm at the beginnings of adding a blog area to my site, but I previously managed 1 semi personal blog and another blog for postpartum depression. On both fronts I moderated comments, I feel more comfortable with knowing what's being posted on my site before it gets there. Not so much for spams but I think we're all pretty familiar with the internet caused bravery that causes the occasional bully. I just don't want to put up with that on my site for me or my commenters/readers.

Re: Do you approve/moderate your comments
I've had a personal blog for years now. I always moderate the comments coming in. It's not that I don't trust my readers. Its that you never know who is going to send you spam or make a negative comment for whatever reason. Since its more of a business recognition blog that you are working on, you wouldn't want a potential client to see a negative comment coming through. By moderating as well, this gives you the chance to discuss the matter with the person before it it public. As the old saying goes, Once its on the internet its near impossible to get rid of.

Re: Do you approve/moderate your comments
I moderate everything that comes through my various websites. I delete the spam and let all else stand. As mentioned above, no-one considers it to be your personal opinion and it can cause some additional conversation.

Re: Do you approve/moderate your comments
I do internet marketing and I have several websites that are set up on the WordPress platform. Since they are technically blogs because they are set up on WordPress, I get a ton of spam comments from other internet marketers. I don't use blog commenting as part of my internet marketing promotion efforts, but I know many other internet marketers do. They use automated software to send spam comments to blogs all over the internet.
The idea is for them to get backlinks to their own websites so when they post comments, they'll use the name of their website as their name and they always include a link to their sites. I moderate comments on all of my websites and I never, ever approve these types comments because most of the time they post a bunch of gibberish or something very generic. You can tell when someone has actually read your post because their comment is directly related to the content of the post.
Unless you want your website to be littered with comments that really have no value, I suggest moderating and approving each one as they come in.
