Hi, everybody! My friend on the other side of town and I both do transcription. For the most part, the work we take compliments each other...she likes or has the background for things I don't like or don't have the background for! The metro area around here is a decent size, so she made a postcard with both of us to cover a larger area of possible local clients. She recently set up a blog on Wordpress for her business and used the theme (if that's what you call it) on the postcard kinda like a background, but not as a logo. She wasn't sure if that was okay, but said she didn't see anything saying it wasn't. For you Wordpress guru's, is that type of thing okay?

Hi Pam,

I would suggest checking with the designer of the theme your friend used for WordPress for permssion. Typically, when a free theme is downloaded from a website, there is a readme file or some kind of notation from the designer indicating whatever restrictions, if any, he/she may have. Some prefer that you don't remove the company name and logo, some do not care and give away their design for any modification.

It sounds as if your friend took an image from a WordPress theme to make the postcard. Some images are licensed and others are not. Some can only be used for non-business-related uses.

My rule of thumb is: If I am unsure whether an images is free to use, then it is best not to take a chance.

Interesting question - I hadn't ever thought of this before.
I agree with Janine in that you should check with the original designer.

I'll be very interested to learn if your friend sought permission and what the outcome was.
