Question What's on your home office wish list?
Some of us work from well-designed home offices... others may work from the kitchen table or even the couch. There have been some fun conversations on the forums about what's in our home offices - but I'm curious to know what's on your home office wish list and why?

What would you invest in and add to your home office right now if you could? (links and/or pictures are encouraged!)

As corny as this may sound Tess, I wish I had enough room and money to get a L -shaped desk. I've always worked at one and this straight shelf desk I have and corner desk just isn't doing it for me.

I'm used to moving around and sliding across the room LOL, I need movement and when I find myself sitting still for so long I feel crowded and I get very bored no matter what's on my plate!

Any suggestions?? I told you this was corny. LOL

Sharon,

Have you ever looked at some of your local auction houses. With so many business going under these days they are always overstocked with office furniture. You will most likely be able to find a nice desk for a cheap price.

Most of these places hold public auctions once or twice a month.

One thing that I have wanted and just never purchased is a NeatDesk scanner. Since I have other scanners I have never justified the cost.

I have several Bookkeeping clients and it would be nice to use for scanning and tracking receipts.

Hi Julie,

Yes that NeatDesk Scanner is great. I wouldn't mind adding that to my wish list as well.

Yes I have looked in the past just to do pricing, but it didn't matter, I truly don't have the space for it.

I want the IKEA Expedit sheving unit/workstation because it will not only give me a larger workspace and storage, but it will serve as a divider too since my office is in a corner of my living room. Every time I think I'm ready to buy, I end up needing something else first!! It's my goal for the end of the summer. Of course, to go along with it there are a bunch of Thirty-One bins to go in the shelving unit that I want too.

I invested in a new L-shaped desk with shelves on my 14th anniversary of my business. Up till then I'd been working with a regular desk that was big, heavy duty and purchased from a store that sold ex-govt office furniture. I figured that it was about time and it was definitely a good investment. I don't know that I have anything big on my wishlist now. My office is pretty much how I want it. But I have just recently ordered a new notebook. I decided I wanted something small I could take out of the office to sit in front of the TV with or take to meetings with me - smaller than a laptop but a bit more useability than an Ipad.

A new desk with a larger working area and drawers. Right now I'm working in a very tight area.

Where do I start. My office is so small I don't really have much room, but I would like an L shaped desk too. I would also like a wire binder, mostly for my own use to bind up all the booklets and stuff I download, so I can read them in bed fore I go to sleep. Those plastic ones don't do it for me. I would like a really good laser printer too. Oh and a better lap top as a spare. There is so much more I would like, especially storage. I was lucky and managed to get hold of a lateral filing cabinet which has two very large drawers and it means that my photoprinter and my fax machine can both sit on it with space left over for a small chest of drawers to stock paper etc.

Oh for a bigger office and a large bank account.

@Sharon - I don't think that is corny at all! LOL...I'd go for the same thing.
@Tina Marie - I love how well you know exactly what you want! In fact - I need to go look that up!

I too would like a better setup. I have so many neck and back problems that I need a much better ergonomic setup. I have a friend who took two unfinished doors that she bought at home depot, she painted and lacquered them, and she mounted them in an L-shape with brackets. Believe it or not - for $80.00 she ended up with a great workstation that was exactly the height she needed, with really great and deep workspace, and you would have never, ever known it was doors unless she pointed it out.

Ultimately though - my biggest dream is a Mac Pro and iPad.

Hi! I work from my lap from wherever. Buuuut I took the liberty of making a pin board dedicated to this! I'm just starting out and the "vision board" approach is really helping motivate me. I decided to take my e-commerce and personal assistant skills and put them to work on my dream of moving to Santa Cruz, Ca. When I saw this post I thought it would be a neat way to introduce myself, motivate myself, and show you who I am all in one bit! Let me know what you guys think I hope you guys don't mind, but I decided to dream a little big. Enjoy!http://pinterest.com/mmmhmm/my-dream-home-office/

I just purchased the Ikea Expedit workstation and I absolutely love it. I think you will definitely enjoy having the various storage spaces.

I think for myself I want a Mac computer. I can't really justify needing it at the moment so therefore it continues to remain on the wish list.

No pictures today since I'm organizing my office AGAIN! On my wish list is a Mac Book Pro, an external hard drive, and a desk that was created at least in the 90's (Mine is quite old but works.) Today, I'm organizing my bookshelf, just purchased a writable yearly calendar for events for clients, and one of those bouncy balls to sit while I work 6-8 hours per day at the computer.

What I really want is to move into a 2 bedroom apartment so that my second bedroom will become my office. Right now I live in a 1 bedroom and my desk is in the corner of my living room. Not quite ideal but I have to make sure of the little space I have.

I dont have any extra space to add anything but if I did I would like to get an all in one laser jet printer and a bookcase.

I absolutely LOVE my L-shaped desk, which has a hutch on top. For those above thinking about it, go for it! One side of the L has all of my computer equipment, and the other side I use to lay out, read, manage paperwork, etc. I love it.

On my wish list would be a high speed scanner. I have the type where you lay the page flat, close the cover, etc, but it takes about a minute for each scan, all said and done. I'd like a self-fed high speed device that has the quality to do pictures and papers. Any suggestions?

What I really want is...an office! I'm the kitchen table person :/. It works 85% of the time because everyone else is away during the day, but I'm about to start coaching people over the phone which will mean I need "quiet hours" in the evening. If I could just get a quiet corner with a door and an outlet, I'd be happy!

@Luz great idea with the pinboard! I'm going to start one too.

Mainly on my wishlist: an area with a door that I can shut everything else out.

Said area would have:
L shaped workstation with hutch & a nice comfy chair
Storage, storage, storage!
Better speakers for the computer for workday jams
a 2nd monitor

My current space is in the corner of dining room, which is THE central traffic area of the house as all other rooms/stairwell to 2nd level are off of this room. Makes it *extremely difficult to concentrate sometimes. I had a dedicated room for the office before but my SIL moved in with us and into "my" room. I sooooooooooooooo miss it!

Neat question. I really like reading everyone's wishes. Using two doors for desktop space is brilliant. I've seen this in magazines and love the look with a paneled doors and a glass top. The magazine showed personal pictures and momentos in the paneled area to personalize the look.

Overall I really like my office. If I could add two things it would be more plants, perhaps a big fica tree, and a leather loveseat-sized sofa for use when doing creative writing.
