Subject: [VirtualAssistants] My predicament!

Hi,

How you doing? We made a trip to London (United Kingdom) unannounced
some days back, Unfortunately we got mugged at gun point last night! All
cash, Credit cards and phone were stolen, we got messed up in another
country, stranded in London, fortunately passport was back in my hotel
room. It was a bitter experience and i was hurt on my right hand, but
would be fine. I am sending you this message cos i don't want anyone to
panic, we want you to keep it that way for now!

Our return flight leaves in a few hours but I’m having troubles sorting
out the hotel bills, wondering if you could loan me some money to sort
out the hotel bills and also take a cab to the airport about $1,500.

I have been to the police and embassy here, but they aren't helping
issues, I have limited means of getting out of here, we canceled our
cards already and made a police report, I won’t get a new card number
till I get back home! So I really need your help.

You could wire whatever you can spare to my name and Location via
Western union, below is all you need:

Name - Jeanne Bolewitz

Location - London, United Kingdom.

I still have my passport so I can use it as identification, email me the
transfer details and the confirmation # would def refund it to you once
we arrive hopefully tomorrow.

I await your prompt response.

I got this same email, supposedly from a friend. It used her name and her email. It looked just like it came from her, and some of our mutual friends were fooled. But I knew it wasn't her style of writing, she didn't greet me by name, and she didn't have the funds to be vacationing in London. Besides, she would have been so excited she would have shouted it from the rooftops. Turns out this is a Facebook hacking. I guess they hacked into her Facebook account and sent this email to all of her "friends" that had emails listed. And apparently Facebook considers this to be a low priority because not enough people are being hacked. Be careful out there, ladies! When in doubt, Google!

I got the same email from my friend. Funny thing was that I was meeting her for lunch that same day so I knew she was not out of the country. What a predicament it caused her but we did have a great laugh about our London lunch that day.

Thanks for passing that on, it is scary to think the e-mail can be sent from a friend without their knowledge.

The scammers are getting more creative every day.

How effective is it to report these as phishing scams?
