Default Domain purchase & web hosting questions!
Ive narrowed down the name for my business to 3 choices, and each has an available matching domain name. My first two choices were available as business names, but the domain names are taken, darn it!

AnywayId like to purchase the domain names for my 3 choices (just so I have the one I want when I make a final decision!), but I have a couple of questions. Web site development is completely foreign to me, and Im sure these are very basic questions, but please bear with me!

1. As far as purchasing the domain name, does it matter where I buy it? Is it simply a matter of price? :huh2:

2. Once my website has been designed and is up and running, what if I decide to change web hosts? Is it a complicated process to move to a new host? :huh2:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Kathryn, these are both good questions
Ultimately, no it doesn't matter much where you purchase your domain name - although some registrars do not necessarily provide easy access to the namerservers, and other aspects of your account that you would need to utilize in order to change hosting companies. (For domain registration I can recommend GoDaddy, although that's certainly not the only viable option)

As far as how to switch webhosts - we actually have an easy tutorial on that exact topic - you'll find it here. Some hosting companies will help you move your site for a small fee (we do! ) but it's really not too complicated to do on your own with the info in the thread I linked to. Hope that helps!

Wow, great information! Thanks Tess!

I'd been thinking of purchasing the domains through GoDaddy, simply because I've heard so much about them. I'm not sure about the hosting yet though...but I'm leaning toward using your services!

Well, I can't vouch for any hosting services as we use our own servers but there are a few threads in this section where other VAs discuss who they host with so that might help you decide - and of course, you're always welcome to host with us

Happy to help. Have fun setting up your site!
