Default Website Review
I've worked tirelessly for a very long time reading forums and books and checking other websites so needless to say I am rather blind by now. I have my website up. PLEASE take a look (www.eassist-virtualofficesolutions.com) and let me know what else I need.

Thank you all so very much.

Shannon -
I looked over your website and I think that it looks good. I would think about re-wording some of the sentences because they seem to go on and on. I know from experience that you feel like you should list every possible thing you have ever done, but sometimes just a couple good examples sound better (i.e. on the page about your experience I would suggest just listing a couple of the tasks you have done).

Hi Shannon I think you have some good basics - a great start. I know it's a lot of work to get a website going so I give you tons of credit for all of that effort!

The first thing I notice when I visit your site is - no brand! [?] Where is your logo?

The second thing I'm wondering about is why the different fonts from page to page?

On your services page there is a section regarding reimbursement of expenses; some of the wording there is copied from your agreement apparently. I'd recommend keeping the legal jargon to your agreement and work on making your website as friendly and conversational as possible. Yes, potential clients want to see that you are professional but they also want to feel that you are a real, approachable person. Plus - they're just exploring your site, getting a first impression of you - there is no agreement just yet

I also had a hard time understanding your retainer options and think they might be better presented in a table with the different packages and the related prices set out in a more linear fashion.

Remember that your website should reflect your level of professionalism - if you're going to market yourself as a high-end VA your website should exemplify that in every respect.

I hope you're not sorry you asked I'd love to take a look at your site again after your next update, so do be sure to post back!

Hi Shannon,

It's a great feeling when your website goes live, so well done!!

Perhaps look at keeping the colours consistent, you have used a couple of different shades of green and you have also used blue and yellow. Perhaps stick to a couple of colours as it will look more professional if it's consistent.

thanks, Sally

Thanks for the critiques. Tess, I am not sorry I asked. That's why I asked. As for the logo, this is the first website that I've ever had so even though I know my way around a computer, I am sooo new to website building. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO GET THE LOGO on there. HELP WITH THAT??
I like colors and making things look different. But if that's not a good thing then that's cool too, I can change it with a coupla clicks.
Kathy, I will most definately be re-wording things around. You all know how overwhelming getting things together can be. I think I remember more about my wedding than I do what all I've read and where I saw it.
I really appreciate all of the advice, that's why I joined this forum in the first place. All the info and I'm still crazy.

Sally, you are up on the colors, what do you think would look good? I've never been a fan of Times New Roman font so I don't use it unless I have to. I'd like something that would go good up against the page colors but still be visible without having to strain the eyes. Thanks for the input.

Hi Shannon,

I really like the dusty pink / maroon colour so I would keep that.

On the home page perhaps change the text that is in blue to black and then the text that is in green change to the pink/maroon colour (the same that you have used for the headings on your rates pages).

Also, there is a sentence, Feel free to contact me...perhaps make contact a hyperlink to your Contact Shannon page?

I would tend to stick to black text, white text (obviously only when you have a dark background), pink/maroon text for headings and you could also add a little bit of dark grey but you might have to play around with it to see how it works.

You could also use the same font for whole site and just increase the size and bold for the headings.

Hope this helps, these are just my thoughts, I am no expert!!!

thanks, Sally

Thanks. I've done alot of revisions since my last post but I'm making notes of these and will play around with it. Any thoughts on the hyperlink? I'm using Microsoft Small Office and I couldn't get the pages to link. I still need to get my FAQs page on there but I was trying to figure out how to get the questions on the top and when one is clicked on it will automatically take you to the answer. Any help is always appreciated.

Hi there
I have a mauve/purple theme happening in my own website but eventually I will put make better use of white space as the others have suggested above (in an attempt to summarise). Readability is always important and I too am struggling with what to put in and what not to. I've read it's good to flirt with the customers (on my page! lol) not give them everything right away, and encourage them to contact you. Like me there may be many things you can do until you find your niche (and I'm still not 100% sure of mine), and so it is easy to be tempted to list everything. Adding to that - we're so versatile how could we possibly list everything??? Tough call... I look forward to your developments and admire you being so brave as to put your site out there for feedback. Mine is live, and useable, but I can't say I am completely happy with it yet.

Good luck in your progress.

Lisa

Thanks Lisa for your input. It is a tough call on what to put where and how much info to really list. I'm not really happy with my site and I am in the process of planning BIG changes. Keep the ideas and info coming.

Shannon,

Websites are never finished. You've gotten some great ideas and I look forward to seeing the next version.

One comment is that it is difficult to read italics. Would suggest you use them only to highlight a word or small phrase. Another is - white space. At my full time job people seem to have an aversion to white space...they want everything "filled up"! Ugh! I think a good use of white space can be dramatic. Don't overdo it though!

I like the wasy you used the calculator.

Just took a look and I'd like to see some links to the sites on your networking page, not just the address. In fact link up all the pages to each other whenever you can, it keeps people looking around, bouncing from one of your pages to another instead of always haveing to travel back to the navigation area.

Happy editing.
