Re: Rip it to shreds!!!
First of all, it's interesting that our logos are so very similar! My compay is Harmony Business Services, and its so close to yours. I haven't posted it yet, but I will soon so you can see.
Second, your colors are good and help to add interest - which is important. It's not all about information but what is pleasing to the eye as well.
I've seen a lot of sites that actually post their rates. I don't know how imperative this is or if you could say something like, "Rates starting at..."
So far I've only managed to secure my domain... I have yet to even begin work on a website. I remember how much work it is, and I'm a little scared.
On the about us page in the last paragraph, there is a typo, and you don't need the comma after "successful."
Furthermore, it is HBS's intent to develop and train other entry level administrative and contracts personnel in order to establish a solid and successful, Professional Administrative & Mangement Consulting Firm.
Hope this helps!!!

Re: Rip it to shreds!!!
Thanks so very much! I'll have to go on-line and fix that typo! I definitely don't want mistakes on my website! This was truly helpful!
Also, one of the reasons that I removed my rates is because of the vast difference in the rate that I charge my current client (who can afford my services at a rate that is almost equivalent to my full-time salary) and my future clients, who would probably flee at the first site of this rate because most organizations and/or individuals don't know a lot about government contracting and how much a person with this expertise is normally paid.
Do you think it is helpful to include a rate at the lower end of the scale?

Re: Rip it to shreds!!!
OK my 2c
I opened the page in the latest IE version and it the layout is aligned to the left. Should this be centred on the page?
On the HOME page I think you have an extra space between firms's and several. Also that first paragraph is one sentence. It is very long to read, can you break it down into a couple of sentences?
ABOUT US oage - a larger font is needed. Difficult to read at that size.
RATES - I would break this down even further into Plans for easier identifcation for the customer. Up to you whether you want to add actual rates.
Ie:
HBS could stand for
H - Hourly - hourly rate plan and details
B - By Retainer - retiiner plan and details
S - Special Project - Price upon consultation bla bla bla
Just a thought.

Thanks Fiona!
If you don't mind I would like to use that acronymn! I am thinking of ditching the folks that host my site (I think that's they way it works). The template that they give you is not very flexible, i.e., I only have a certain amount of space to use for that section on the about us page, so I had to make the font smaller. Thanks so much for your critique this will definitely help me!

Re: Rip it to shreds!!!
As for rates, I definitely prefer the rates to be listed. Now, this is based on my own personal experience. When I am looking for a product or service on the Internet, if I have several sites to look at, if there are no rates/prices listed, I'll just go on to the next one. I'm usually working within a budget and so price is the first deciding factor.
I know what SWaM is, but what's CCR? Is it related to DUNNS? Just curious!
Your title (in your code) for your Home page should say your business name, not just "Home." (The title of a page in the code is what shows up at the very top of your browser when you're on a webpage.) I have the name of my company included in all my website page titles--The Perfect Word Pricing, About The Perfect Word, etc. I've read it helps with SEO.
For the font on your "About" page, it is smaller, but I could still read it okay and I'm always complaining about things being too small!
I really like your colors, name, and logo!

Good luck

Hey Frances,
The site is a little bit edgy, graphics isn't in the right places for the links.
It really needs work on my honest opinion.
Send me a tell so i can tell you more about it.
Warmly,
Kristian

Re: Rip it to shreds!!!
Hi Frances,
I think you have a good foundation. I particularly like how professionally titled the services are listed. The colors in the header are very nice.
A few observations:
I think the About Us page is too wordy and difficult to read in the small font. I'd shorten and just leave the highlights of your background in bullet format for easier reading.
On the Home page I think this is long, run-on sentence with at least one spelling error and spacing issues. I've highlighted the offending items. The highlighted word 'small' doesn't fit. Do you service small women? That's how I read that. I'd suggest redoing this paragraph, add some images because this is the most important piece of internet real estate you have (I learned that here on VAF moons ago and never forgot it).
Say specifically what you can do for the client rather than simply saying what your business is all about.
Harvey Business Solutions, LLC (HBS) is a small Woman and Minority owned business that is committed to effectively utilizing the firm's several years of administrative, business development and contracts mangement experience to provide professional services in support of small and large businesses that lack our expertise and/or requires additional support.
The logo on the services page is cut off. You may need to resize that before inserting into the header.
I think it is fine not to put your Rates in but I would state how someone could find your rates. I would add a contact page to fill out a form or at least an email address where people can find out what your rates are.
Which leads me to my last thought...each page should have some 'call to action'. The user should be compelled to do something on each page. Either they could download something, or have an opportunity to add their email address for a newsletter or some document or they could click 'here' to contact you....something.
