Well, I have been working on my website and I have it done enough where I could use some extra sets of eyes. Reviews, critique, input are all welcome. I find myself nervous here as I post this, but I am my own worst critic!

Hi Darlene I have to say I really love the font you used for your navigation - it's very nice but I don't recognize it, would you mind sharing which one it is? (I'm so curious!)

We have some great writers here on the boards so I'll let them jump in on any points with your content, just a quick overview of a few minor things I noticed or would suggest -

I might try adding just a *touch* more white space between your menu on the left and the edge of the site...and perhaps an equal touch of white space between each menu item. Just to avoid kind of cramping your links together - and you really do have plenty of room there to play with.

I can't quite figure out where it is, but when you click from the home page to any other page you'll see there's like a little 'jump' in the frame. All of your pages are aligned perfectly with eachother with the exception of the home page. I almost think it's because of the header but it's hard for me to tell exactly where it is...

For your image tags on the menu, it's great that you've got them in there, but optimizing them for search results will be a good move. Put the words 'Virtual Assistant' in where it makes sense - like on services/solutions the tag could read 'Virtual Assistance Services', etc.

I noticed on a few pages the in-text contact isn't linked up.

The only other initial thing I would suggest is to move your photo up to the top left of the content about you personally, on the about page, so that is's meshed with your text - you could even make it a little bigger

I have been reading and reading the forums a lot lately and I saw that you had mentioned the importance of image tags for SEO purposes. Thank you so much for checking my tags and pointing me in the right direction. I must say, I am a little wet behind the ears when it comes to SEO!

Ok, so now to answer your question. The font I used for the side navigation and actually for the logo too, is called: Liorah BT. I created both images in Adobe Illustrator.

Hi Darlene -

I like your website. It is very clean and professional looking. The only comment I would make would be to change the color of your headers. You used the same color blue as a hyperlink and makes me feel like I should be able to click on the "blue" header to link to another page. Otherwise, I really like the professional look and feel.

I'm a newbie and working on getting my web site up and running in January. I think it's great to be able to post your web site here and get feedback. Stay tuned I would love your input when I get mine up and running.

Thank you! I never really noticed that about the headers, but you are right. In fact, I can recall a few times I visited a website or two that used blue for the color of their text and I found myself clicking on the text thinking it was a link. I became agitated rather quickly, not something I want to happen to visitors of my site, that is for sure.

And yes, I think it is great too that you can post your site and get feedback here. I must say this forum is pretty rad!

Darlene- You've done a great job with your website, I do like its feel.

I would suggest putting a heading in you home page before "Do you leave your office....." and increase the font size, separating it from the body text size and do the same with the other pages.

I should clarify what I meant about your image tags - the Google algorithm, while not the only one out there, is surely the most 'important' just by virtue of it's sheer volume of users.
Now, the spiders that come to your site want to see image tags that reflect what the image actually represents. So while I definitely encourage you to fill those spaces in with keyword rich info they should also reflect the true nature of the images.

So, with that in mind, I'd suggest changing the ones that say just 'Virtual Assistant' to - for example the 'home' button could read 'D.Victoria Virtual Assistance Home'
(now, that's a little long but is OK for that one...)
For 'about' it could read 'About our virtual assistance services' etc. - you get the idea

Give it another tweak in that respect so Google doesn't penalize you!

I was trying to get Wordpress working via my web host yesterday (that didn't work, apparently I need a higher account level to have MySQL access) and inadvertently deleted my index.html file. All is working now!
