Question Help me improve my website!
Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Today is a good day for me because after a marathon of web designing this weekend, I've just about finished my website for my new VA business!

I would love to get your feedback on it before I start promoting it, even if you have only a few minutes. The more eyes, the better, and I really value your opinions.

I would really like to know anything that you don't like, that's confusing, that doesn't look right, that you wish were there... please tell me! Don't hold back.

Blue Canary Virtual Assistance

Thanks in advance.

Hi Liz,

Nice website. I recognize the template - good choice!

I do wonder if you need some explanation on the home page of what you do so they don't have to dig around the site to find out. People seem to have short attention spans these days.

Overall, I really like it and think you have done a great job.

Hi Liz,

I like the layout. I think it is simple and clean. I also like the font you used in the blue writing.

I was expecting the color 'blue' to be the predominant color given the name of your company and some reference to a Blue Canary. I didn't see a canary on the page so for me, the business name didn't connect with the image of the website and the red left me confused.

The little man with the feet didn't seem to jive for me as to how he was relative to administrative work and the Blue Canary business name.

I like the frankness of your slogan...about getting the project done...but the little man doesn't connect with getting the job done. So I am not sure what that cartoon is for.

The only reference to administration is that word in the middle of the page so I would think about adding some information on that page which would prompt people to click on the little yellow man.

I would also not assume that people will know to click on the yellow man to find out more information about your business. So think about adding 'learn more' and show a button or something leading them to click on the man.

I would create more menu items. Do you have any testimonials you can add? If so, create a testimonial pull down menu. Do you have a portfolio or samples of your work? If so I'd create a portfolio tab in the menu area. The three menu items seems a bit sparse.

I do like that your photo and your tweets are actually 'above the fold' at the bottom of your page. It's nice to see your picture there and that helps to personalize the page. I also like the way you organized your services page although none of those boxes listing those services are clickable. Think about adding pages and some description of those services so people can learn more about what you do, the solutions you provide and give them a reason to take the next step to contact you.

Janine

I really like it Liz.

It's not over-complicated or too wordy... an excellent piece of work in my opinion

Hi,
I think the site looks great! The colours and fonts are appealing and the layout is clean and fresh. Good Work.

I think that Janine has a good point about the picture not fitting in with your company name. This image appears on your index - main page. I think you should consider changing the image to a Blue Canary (or something along those lines). You could also associate a canary sound file with your index page (quiet and short). These three things - company name text, the picture and sound - would reinforce your branding.

As a side note:
I also wanted to mention the significance of seeing a canary in dreams:
To see a canary in your dream, represents happiness and harmony.
I thought you might find this information useful and that you could tie these points in to your content as you develop your branding further.

Great Job! Best of Luck with everything.

So much valuable feedback! Thank you so much, to each one of you. I'm going to work on all of your comments and I'll let you know when the site is public!

Regarding the menu options, I wanted to keep my top menu very simple (I think that there are 3 primary reasons that a client visits a website - to consider what you offer, to learn about you, and to contact you). So then on the interior pages on the sidebar there are options to view the Portfolio, Testimonials, etc. which I view as "supporting" pages.

Do you think these are too hidden and I should sacrifice some of the simplicity so that they appear in the top menu?

I was not totally sold on the yellow man, either, so thank you for confirming my instinct and I'll work on incorporating more "bird" themes instead!

Elisa-Marie, that's just lovely. I already have it copied over to my list of ideas for further branding.

Thank you again, everyone, you are the best!
