I am finally getting around to having a more professional web presence. I would be grateful for any feedback on the design and layout before I embark on the arduous task of content.

Hi Ann - I think the design itself is lovely. Very clean and professional. I love your logo as well, and I personally am a huge fan of sliders.

Because you said only design and layout, I'm assuming that the current content in the blocks and in the slider are NOT your final product...correct? Reason I ask is because if it is what you had in mind as final content you will need to review some issues with grammar.

Re: the layout - Determine if you plan to have any widgets or any sidebar items at all. If so, you may want to extend the width a bit. Also, I would do something a little different with the blocks at the bottom because just seeing the images above the fold I'm not compelled to scroll down to see what's under them. You want as much of your message above the fold as possible, but clear and succinct. Not wordy where people have to actually read line-by-line.

You may also want to consider a change to the font on your nav bar. You are currently using Georgia, and it doesn't work well next to your logo's font. Also, I can't tell what font you are using in the slider, but I would recommend a lucinda or lucinda-grande or similar font. Your design is clean and crisp, so therefore you may want to consider your font-family being crisp as well and using the same font-family throughout (except of course in your logo).

Too much space taken up by the images and I was distracted by "Web Design Glasgow by Excel Trading (UK) Ltd", wondering why this link is front and center (or should I say front and right).

I would consider getting rid of the slider and filling that area with text.
