Default Big Steps
I've published my website, but my stumbling block is actual telling people what I'm doing, I'm so nervous about updating my LinkedIn, or my facebook and directing people to my website, maybe I should get some opinions on it!

I think with not being a web designer I'm worried that people will think it's unprofessional, but then I decide that it will serve it's purpose for now and I can update as my skills progress. Strange how nervous something can make you!! I'm not really in a position to change the format, it's not html, but that's something I'm planning on looking into in the near future.

Pauline, your site is fine, especially since you are offering general administrative services & not web design/development. And you are right that you can update your site as your skills increase.

At some point you have to take the plunge!

Hi Pauline
I actually think your site is quite nice - it's simple and subdued and has a calm feel to it.

It's wonderful that you used a nice, big image of yourself on your about page - that's going to help set you apart from all the other 'faceless' VA business sites out there.

I didn't spend a lot of time reading your content, etc. but did notice on the Pricing page you used an apostrophe - VA's - it should be VAs.

Great start

Well done, Pauline. Your website has a crisp, clean, concise feel to it and is very easy to navigate. All the information is clearly laid out and it's very pleasing to the eye.

One small grammatical problem I did spot is on your Terms and Conditions page, under the Projects section. The 2nd sentence starting with "VTS errors......." doesn't seem to make sense. Think there is something missing? (Sorry, but I am the Grand Master of the Grammar Police - I blame my mother!).

Hope that helps. Good luck. Jane

Phew thank you! It didn't make sense in the slightest!

This was my first attempt at creating a website - I think it's something I'd like to learn more about eventually.

Pauline,

I like how clean your website is. Too many sites now are overloaded with all sorts of distracting features. I do have a suggestion - switching to black font on white background style instead of white font on black background. It's a readability issue - reading white (let alone green) font on black background places too much strain on the eyes. If you want to keep black background, maybe you can place your text in a white or grey text box?

Hi Pauline,

I agree with onclick-va about the black background. It does strain the eyes trying to read it. Other than that I don't think you should have any qualms over adding it to LinkedIn etc. Go for it! I am also LinkedIn if you want to connect with me.

Cheers

Fiona

I think your website looks just fine! Especially since it's your first time.
I really like the black background, makes it very polished looking.

Good Luck with your business!!

Thanks for all of the input - I kind of like the black background too. My business cards match the front page of the website, with the three images and the same colours so they match. I went out to speak to some potential clients today, just passing in postcards but was quite nervous. I hope I didn't give them the wrong impression when I nervously told them they could hire me by the hour!!
