I just started using wordpress , I have a very basic introduction about my services, it's just a start. I would like some feedback and ideas.

Did you want a blog or a website? The thing is that you have a blog instead of a static website so everytime you add new content, your first post is just going to keep moving down to the bottom of the list. If you wanted to set up a website you can still do so on WordPress. Go to http://www.wordpress.org to get cheap hosting with your own domain name (that way WordPress won't form part of your URL) and download a static design.

I'm only writing this because I'm confused as to whether you wanted a blog or an actual website to advertise your services...

Yes, I want a website not a blog.
If I can't do a website ,I'll stick to the blog.

Hi Magdaline,

Congrats on taking your first steps on your website. A professional website that tells visitors why they will benefit from partnering with you will be one of your most important tools in promoting yourself.

To add to what Sabrina said, your website should have some static pages that display the information that your clients will be looking for, such as an "about" page, your services, your portfolio, etc. You should be able to set that up in your current template by creating Pages. Then, your blog posts will be the place where you write articles and notes on a regular basis to show off your expertise and your personality as well as provide value to the potential client by writing about topics that interest them and solve problems they may have. Regular updates to your site will also help your page rank higher in search engines.

Hope that this helps you to organize the information that you want to have on your website. You're already off to a good start and keep us posted on your progress!

you just gave a me a green light to go ahead , I thought I was going to receive negative reviews because I didn't think it looked that great BUT THANKS for the Vote of Confidence,
sometimes you need a little push from someone else who shares the same goal as you.

I think it's wonderful that you are tackling WordPress to build your site! You definitely have that "can do" attitude that is necessary for success.

When I decided to create my own website, WordPress was too much to try and learn while also setting up my business. I used SnapPages because of their drag and drop features and surprised myself by using and editing some HTML code along the way. Learning WordPress is on my continuing education list for next year.

Good luck with your website and I know you will find lots of information and help here in the forum!

I am learning WordPress by watching the videos on Lynda.com. Its $25 per month and I find it very helpful. They have a basic WordPress training and of course more advanced videos.

Hey Magdaline-- Congrats on your Launch! I know how it feels to want to get your site up an running. I wanted to give you some insight on wordpress! My website is WP operated so you can take a look (the linke is in my signature). What I love about WP is that you can incormorate a Blog right in the site, however your WP site does not have to look like a blog. I use themes from WooThemes.com-- I love it. Many of their themes are free and most of them are VERY easy to use. I will admint, it can be helpful if you know basic HTML. Let me know if you need help!

Hi Magdaline, it does look like you've created a blog rather than a website. I am yet to learn WordPress myself so unfortunately can't help you out with it. But there are a lot of WordPress experts on the forum, who I'm sure will be glad to answer any questions for you. And good on you to take this on and create your own site. Once you have your site going, post it and we will be more than happy to review it for you.
