Just curious, who here uses an editor, be it a friend or a professional for their work. For my brochures and newsletters I ask a friend who is an experienced editor for her help and she loves to do it because that isn't her field anymore but she loves it still. She used to edit an alumni magazine at her old university. I return the favour by giving her husband a break on stuff I do for him and occasionally cook dinner or drop off a nice bottle of wine. I also know an editor who I would pay if my friend were not available.
I actually have a friend who occasionally proofs my work and I also frequently enlist my Dad, who is a great help. For me, it's more a matter of ensuring a second set of eyes have reviewed my writing to ensure I haven't missed any glaring errors that I may have made.
