I'm so glad I found this topic in here. I was just checking my site stats & noticed that someone was visiting my site numerous times via their editor. I checked the website that the visitor was coming from to discover that this person had basically copied word for word content from my home page. I am so annoyed at the moment as it took me a good 3 months to re-set up my website after purchasing my own domain & hosting etc. I had it reviewed by a copywriter and ended up re writing most of the content. I am going to contact this person and see what happens. I think if you like what someone has put on their site at least contact them or try to re-write it. Don't copy it word for word......

Thanks. Just needed to vent......

I am glad that I found this thread as well. It is a good reminder. As a newbie the temptation is there: you can't find the words to describe exactly what it is you wish to offer. . . so . . but I too believe in Karma. YOU DO GET WHAT YOU PUT OUT. And when I am struggling to write brochures, think of a logo, or slogan, I think of the pain expressed here and it makes me remember to always do the right thing.

OMG - Let me tell you about this!!

This situation happened to me *unfortunately*.
Previously I didn't have anywhere on my website "copyright", because I was naive and I never thought it would happen... why would somebody steal / clone my whole website. I would assume that any person would know better than straight copy and paste material and claim it as there own....is illegal!!

Well.. story goes.
I was using bing.com and I wanted to see where I was listed on the searches using different keywords.
I didn't see my name right away, but I was still clicking on other VA sites the search was bringing up.
When I clicked on the fake/cloned site... it caught my attention...
I said... that seems familiar... like if I have read it somewhere before.
I closed the site... within minutes my light bulb turned on...
I went back to that fake site and I read through all the other pages she had!!!
YEP!!! There it was, all my exact information from my website on her website.

I was in shock!! OMG! Thank goodness I posted it on Twitter for the whole Twitterworld to read!! LoL Because to my resuce >>>>>> Tess !!!! ((( Thank You )))

She provided me with the above information and I followed through step by step.
I got her taken care of in less than two days (i do not feel sorry for criminals) LoL
All the information on her website is now cleared thanks to some quick action.

But... maybe this never would have happened if I had only posted COPYRIGHT on my content from the very beginning!

I wish this on no one... its such sore feeling.
Please learn from my silly mistake.**

Thank You Tess!!! I couldn't have done this with out you!!

Tess- Thanks for this advice! I am shocked that people would be able to post or use something that was not their own creation! Thanks for giving us a way to very quickly combat it if it should happen to us.

What a Thread, I am now in the process of revamping my main site, I am using the services of another VA. I remember the notebooks I purchased to write down my ideas, paragraphs, drawing, pricing labels, retainer packages, names of the division of my company. etc, etc. Talk about getting a non stop head. Finally I put it all together and I saw my efforts shine on the internet.

If someone were to use MY work without MY permission, I will definitely become the HUMOR TORCH.(lol) It was hard work putting my site together, I remember I went without sleep for days, this was my first time trying putting a site together, and I love the work I did.

I researched other VA sites, but I never used they contains, I hate plagiarism. There is one Page which appears on practically every VA's website it's 'WHAT'S A VIRTUAL ASSITANT'. I read what others wrote, but in the finally analysis of thing, I wrote my own genre of this title

I agree. I put a lot of time and hard work into building my site and to have that taken from me would make me furious!

Wow Tess. I have got to say the thought never even crossed my mind that someone would do that. Not to mention that I don't even know if I would realize it, if it had gotten done to me. I am just starting my VA website. I have a notebook full of thoughts, still trying to figure out the software........and by reading all this info, I guess I will have to learn about additional items to watch for. How many hours are in a day? LOL

Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), you can place a notification on your website.

The following link/information is from 2007, not much has changed since.

DMCA Notice Of Copyright Infringement

Free Copyright Notice

Also, Amit Agarwal has some very good advice and techniques in locating those who do not have a published email on their site (should you decide to write them a polite email).
