Question We or I
It's Caroline again. I'm currently in the business developing stage and working on my business plan. I'm wondering about how to present myself/my company on my website.

My company name is LC Mills, Inc. (I'll have a tag line which will explain what the company does, by the way.) How should I speak on the site: first person or as the company. Should I reference myself specifically? Kinda confused about this.

I've seen some websites that speak of themselves specifically and even on a first name basis with a nice picture of themselves even. Very casual and warm. And I've seen some just mention the company and what it offers. Both have it's advantages. How should I choose?

What are your ideas?

Hi Caroline,
I have also seen both on different websites, I like both ways but mixing them up is also a good idea. Once you get an idea, post it on here so we can take a look and give you feedback after looking at it.

Hi Caroline,

It's all about how you want to approach it and who your target market is. My work now focuses on working with heart centered solo professionals and the group in general tends to approach things on the more casual side of things as I am so I approach it with being totally authentic and open.

Now if I was focusing on working with a corporation or even small business I might have my pages more about WE, or the company.

Think about the market you are looking to work with and that should help determine how you want to write our copy.

I have struggled with this same question. I finally decided to use first person We/Us/Our, but I think I want to change it to 2nd person Me/My. Like you pointed out, this seems warmer and friendlier which is what I am striving for.

I use "I" as one of my USPs is the fact that it's me that does 99% of the work, unlike a lot of transcription companies who have transcribers working for them.

I agree, I think it is more personal to use 'I'. Although do you then need to declare if you subcontract?

I really appreciate this thread. Because when I first started with my vision for a VA business, I thought that I had to sound like I was this huge company. But that's not what I'm trying to portray , it doesn't fix honestly with my personality or my market that I am trying to get. So thanks in helping me settling my mind with the decision to keep things personalized because that is in my tagline.
This VA group is a wonderful.

I was always an "I" but recently added a bookkeeper (I'm hopeless at bookkeeping), so now we're a "We". Over time I propose to add others to the team who specialize in certain niches other than my own so we're a one stop shop for any client need.

While I do connect and sometimes subcontract work out to others, I'm still just me in my business my site has a section specifically about Virtual Assistance and I state there that I have a team (my subcontractors) that I connect with, but everywhere else it's just about me, all me! Hee, hee...

I don't think so... I wrote a blog post a while back about "my" point of difference and in there stated I do 99% of the work myself... although it is incredibly rare that I have to subcontract, and if I did it would be interview-type work rather than people's business correspondence etc.
